began to fall!
Since I’d been given a brief respite from my mental attack,
I was now ready and able to teleport once more.
I’ve got him, 1 thought to Jerboa. I didn’t have time for
my usual eloquence.
Ina flash, I teleported to Pulmo’s plummeting body,
wrapped my hand around his arm, and then teleported us
both to a safe landing area: an emergency landing mat I
have set up for just these types of emergencies.
After I regained my sense of gravity, I found Pulmo
unable to respond to my thought-queries. Upon closer
inspection, I realized that the machine in which he places so
much faith had backfired from the excess energy and given
him quite a shock.
I instantly teleported him to the emergency room of
the county hospital. The staff quickly assisted me in
getting Pulmo comfortably rested on a stretcher, while my
perceptive mind abilities detected a rude comment from
one of the nurses. Oh, great. Another Superhero, thought
the nurse, the sarcasm dripping wet insults all over the tiled
floor.
Here I must digress from the story in order to elaborate
on the downfall of mind reading as a super power. One
might think it’s a very handy skill to have, whereas knowing
what people are thinking can be a valuable asset to any
objective-oriented individual. However, it is not the case
that mind reading can be in any way a clear indication of
anyone’s character, or of a person’s predisposition toward
making any specific action. In fact, in many situations, the
thoughts of human beings are merely an unwelcome and
