THEOREM:-The product of the quarter circumference of a circle & its diameter gives the area of

circle.

Let radius of the assumed circle is ‘r’. According to the statement the diameter and the sides of
r×π
rectangle AB=CD=2rand the quarter circumference of circle CE=ED= .
2

Area of the circle =πr 2 (2.1)

r×π
Area of rectangle= *2r= πr 2 (2.2)
2

Equations (2.1) & (2.2) are equal. Hence proof the upper statement.

TRANSFORMATION OF RECTANGLE INTO SQUARE

Now transform this rectangle into square with having equal perimeter.

The transformed square is CFGH with the side‘s’.

 4s=r(π+4)
Squaring both sides

 2 2
16 s =r ¿ (2.3)

Now multiply both sides by ‘k ' and consider this k as the ratio of area of rectangle to square

Ar
 k= As
π a2
 k= s2

 2 2
k s =π a (2.4)

Putting this equation in the L.H.S previous equation

 2 2
16 s k =r k ¿

 2 2 2
16πr =r k ( 4+ π ) cancelling r
2

 2
16=( 4+ π ) k (2.5)

 16π=k(16+8π+ π )
2

 2
16π=k16+8πk+ π k

 2
16k+8πk-16π+ π k =0

 2
16k+π(8k-16)+ π k =0
8−4 k + 8 √ 1−k
 π= k (2.6)

This is a quadratic equation of π. So it has two solutions. Pi is a constant it cannot have two
values.

So, if equation will have one solution then

 k-1=0,

 k=1

Equation 2.6 becomes

8−4 k
 π= k

 π=4.
