Lace Headbands
by Knit Picks Design Team

These three headbands are great


projects for a beginner; they also
make a quick and easy gift for more
experienced lace knitters.
The Knit Picks Chart Keeper
(80314) is a terrific tool when
working with lace patterns: simply A B C
move one of the magnets from line
to line to keep your place.

Notes
Finished Size:
One skein can make 2-3 headbands depending on gauge and length.
2” by 19”; adjust length as desired
We were able to get three headbands from one skein.
Yarn:
With the cotton-blend yarn and the lace pattern, these headbands have a

tendency to stretch. Keep this in mind when you determine the length of the
(70% Tanguis Cotton, 30% Linen; 123
headband.

With size 3 needles, CO 11. Needles
Knit 10 rows in garter stitch (5 garter stitch ridges). US Size 3 (3.25 mm): straight needles

Pattern: Notions
Row 1 (RS) - K3, p1, k3, p1,k3. Two ½” buttons
Row 2 - K1, p2, k1, p3, k1, p2, k1. Sewing needle & matching thread
Row 3 - K1, k2tog, yo, p1, yo, k3tog, yo, p1, yo, k2tog, k1. (we used invisible thread for strength)
Row 4 - K2, p3, k1, p3, k2. Knit Picks Chart Keeper 80314
Row 5 - K1, p1, k3, p1, k3, p1, k1.
Row 6 - K2, p3, k1. p3, k2. Gauge:
Row 7 - K1, p1, yo, k3tog, yo, p1, yo, k3tog, yo, p1, k1. 5 ½ sts = 1” in lace pattern.
Row 8 - K1, p2, k1, p3, k1, p2, k1. Check your gauge before you begin.
Repeat these 8 rows for pattern until headband measures 19” or desired length,
ending with an even row.

Buttonhole section
Rows 1-4: Knit.
Row 5 (buttonholes): K3, yo, k2tog, k2, yo, k2tog, k2.
Rows 6-12: Knit.

Finishing (all headbands)


Block headband to 2” wide and required length. Sew two buttons to
the WS of the beginning to correspond with buttonholes.
