1.INTRODUCTION
In compliance with the directive of the Hon'ble SupremeCourt of India, the Central Board of Secondary Education,Delhi, would be conducting the All-India Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Entrance Examination, 2008. This entranceexamination is being conducted exclusively for the 15%merit positions for the Medical/Dental Colleges of Indiaas specified in the directive of the court and will begoverned by the rules and regulations specified for thesame by the Government of India, Ministry of Health andFamily Welfare from time to time.
2.SHORT TITLE
These rules will be called as All-India Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Entrance Examination Rules.
3.DEFINITIONS
(i)
“Government”
means Government of India.(ii)
“Ministry”
means Ministry of Health & FamilyWelfare, New Delhi.(iii)
“Board”
means Central Board of SecondaryEducation, Delhi(iv)
“Medical Examination”
means All-India Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Entrance Examination.(v)
“Qualifying Examination”
means Examinations onthe result of which the candidate becomes eligibleto apply for admission to the All-India Pre-Medical/ Pre-Dental Entrance Examination.(vi)
“Rules”
means the rules specified by the CentralBoard of Secondary Education for the conduct of this examination under the directive of the Hon’bleSupreme Court of India as well as Ministry of Health& Family Welfare.(vii)
“Scheduled Castes”
means Scheduled Castes asspecified and laid down by the Government of India.(viii)
“Schedule Tribes”
means Scheduled Tribes asspecified and laid down by the Government of India.(ix)
“Other Backward Classes (OBCs)”
means OtherBackward Classes as specified and laid down bythe Government of India.(x)
“Disabled”
means disable as specified and laiddown by the Government of India.(xi)
“Council”
means Medical Council of India andDental Council of India.(xii)
“Eligible Candidate”
means a candidate whosatisfies the requirement of eligibility as prescribedby the Medical Council of India and Dental Councilof India.
4.PATTERN OF AIPMT 2008
The entrance examination consists of :
Preliminary Examination:
The Preliminary Examination would consist of one paper containing 200 objective typequestions (four options with single correctanswer) from Physics, Chemistry and Biology(Botany & Zoology) to be answered on thespecially designed machine-gradable sheetusing Ball Point Pen only.The duration of paper would be 3 hours.
Final Examination:(Only for those who qualify in the PreliminaryExamination).
The Final Examination would consist of twopapers each of 2 hours duration. Paper-1 wouldcontain questions from Physics and Chemistryand Paper-2 would contain questions fromBiology (Botany & Zoology).The Final Examination will have conventional(non-objective) type of questions to beanswered in the Answer Book supplied.
LANGUAGE OF THE QUESTION PAPERS
Candidates can opt for Question Papers either in
English
or in
Hindi
. This option should be exercised while fillingin the Application Form.

6.SYLLABUS FOR THE EXAMINATION:
The Syllabus is common to both Preliminary and FinalExamination. Please see
Appendix-I
for details.
