The aim of this research is to understand if the culture of a public school of Manaus contributes to form critical and politically active individuals. The specific objectives are to identify the principal values in the school culture as exposed in the Political-Pedagogic Project; to analyse if those values are applied in school activity; and last, to understand if the values applied in the school activity are stimulating in the formation of critical-reflexive students. The research in the school showed that what is exposed in the P.P.P. doesn’t correspond to effective practices in school social relations. Often, the agents responsible for the P.P.P. don’t either know about or agree with the orientations presented by the document.
School, in practice, is not a democratic space because its practices are not oriented by the ideal of stimulating participation of its agents in decisions that regard their school interests (community, teachers and students). This work is inspired by critical-dialetical method and was conducted through field and bibliographic research, with reference in studies of Hall(1997), Lahire(2004), Luckesi (1994), Luck (2007), Dubet(2008) e Dalari (1998).
