Former SeaWorld veteranarians Drs Mike Walsh and Terry Campbell wrote a peer-reviewed paper in the Journal of "Clinical and Diagnostic Virology" describing the viral laden tissue of Kanduke, a killer whale whose rapid death puzzled them and the trainers back in September of 1990, at SeaWorld of Florida. To prove that a virus killed the captive transient orca they sent frozen tissue samples to Yale University for visualization under an electron microscope. The article entitled, "Isolation of St. Louis Virus from a killer whale" was published in 1993, and is attached here, beginning on page 22. This combination of the necropsy report and article demonstrates a direct causal link between ocra confinement and premature death. There was an outbreak of St Louis Virus in Florida during the summer of 1990, when the whale was bitten by the infected mosquito.
