Description

The Gnosjo region is unique in Sweden and renowned for its distinctive business climate that is referred to as ‘Gnosjo spirit’. This paper presents a special image of the industrial district relationships in the Gnosjo industrial district by using the corporation as a framework to understand the structuring of business activities with respect to the content (what) and the process (how). Eight different local firm owner/managers and stakeholders participated in the study. The findings indicate that inter-firm relationships in the industrial district are motivated by the desire to reduce the transaction cost. The paper also offers an alternative perspective in analyzing the industrial districts as the current study uses the concept of corporation in explaining the industrial district phenomenon.
