COMMISSIONER HONORED AT SURPRISE

WINTER MEETING!

December 21, 2005

Ansley Tuesday Afternoon Golf Tour (ATAG)
By: Don Nichols

ATAG Commissioner Don Nichols was honored by fellow ATAG Tour players at a surprise ATAG Winter Meeting held at
6:00 pm on Tuesday, December 19th in the Ansley Men’s Grill. The unsuspecting Nichols arrived late for what he
believed to be a holiday season gathering of just a few ATAGers only to find practically the entire ATAG roster
waiting to express their thanks and appreciation to the Commissioner for his work during the 2005 season.

Braving a cold, wintry night to make the meeting were ATAG Tour players Brad Reese, Danny Morris, Jimmy Matthew,
Rick Eaton, Marty Arnold, Tom Kisgen, Sherman Wade, Tom Thornhill, Doug Gooding, Tim Martin, Jim Williamson, Doug
Healy, Lee Pearson, Jim Bernhardt, Russ Jobson, Mike Gaddis, Scotty Greene, Dick Pease, Brooks Cowles, Ollie
Kennon, and Geoff Fitzpatrick.

Original founding ATAG member Danny Morris led off the proceedings by hoisting his glass and making a toast to the
Commissioner on behalf of the group which was quickly followed with a chorus of “here heres” around the table.
ATAG Humorist Tom Kisgen then followed by telling a fictional story about the Commissioner and his exploits that was
cleverly interwoven with the old Clinton “rabbit” joke involving a frog found on a golf course and later taken to Las
Vegas (talk to Kisgen for the “rest of the story”).

Assuming the role of Master Of Ceremonies, Morris then told of the plan, initiated by Brad Reese, and which was
several weeks in the making, to pass the hat and provide the Commissioner with a token of the group’s appreciation
for all of the work the Commissioner does on behalf of ATAG.

A dumbfounded Nichols was then presented a large gift wrapped package which he hastily ripped open to find a
black, Ansley Golf Club logo, Ping Carry Golf Bag inscribed with “ATAG Commissioner” on the back. The humbled
Nichols thanked the players and acknowledged that they had craftily found a way for him to be obligated to
continue to serve as Commissioner for seasons to come (especially when told there was some extra credit in his
name in the Pro Shop).

After the presentation was concluded, the Special ATAG Winter Meeting continued with a round table discussion
amongst the players that addressed several issues and which came up with the following resolutions:

▪ Nichols would, in fact, hold the position of Commissioner in perpetuity and continue reporting the exploits of the
ATAG Tour through the publication of the Nickelodeon. (He should also not expect anything else)

▪ All protests filed during the 2005 Season were found to be without merit and were summarily dismissed.

▪ The first group to tee off during each match of the 2006 season will be responsible for ordering Pizza or other
suitable fast food to be delivered to the Men’s Grill Porch and shared by those who contribute pro rata to its cost.

▪ A player must participate in at least six matches during the season in order to be eligible to continue on the ATAG
Tour, and no other Ansley member will be eligible to be a full time member until there is an opening. However, other
Ansley members, as well as any outside guests of ATAGers will be allowed to participate in matches on a “guest
appearance” basis if they happen to show up at tee time, in keeping with the ATAG tradition of never turning away
a fellow golfer.

▪ A proposal to move the matches from Tuesday to Friday was quickly dismissed when it was believed that AFAG
might be misinterpreted and communicate the wrong message.
The meeting then concluded about 8 pm with most heading home while a small contingent headed out for dinner
at the Black Bear Tavern.

The first match of the 2006 Season will be on April 4, 2006. Until then, ATAG Tour players are encouraged to
participate in the ATAG Off Season Conditioning Program so that they will be leaner and stronger for next years’
competition. On that note, fellow ATAGers should be aware that both Brad Reese and Jim Bernhardt announced
that each had ordered a new driver for the 2006 Season in their quest to be the longest hitter on the ATAG Tour.

Again, I very much appreciate the recognition and want to thank all those who contributed, with special thanks to
those who were able to attend the meeting. We have got a good thing going, and I look forward to seeing
everybody again next season!
