Dear Communications Professional, July 2008

Is your organisation facing challenges in the area of communicating to its stakeholders? Even in an era
of advanced mediums of communication sending your message across is not easy. Are the communication
strategies which you have put into place not quite yielding the expected results? Effective communication is a
crucial factor in any business. It is vital that your stakeholders, both internal and external understand your brand
to ensure a positive company image.

If you would like to learn more about the best practices in strategic communications and how to create
brand ambassadors from your stake holders, then you cannot afford to miss this conference. The Managing
Strategic Communications Forum has been put together through industry research and on the agenda are
issues which you grapple with on a day to day basis.

“Communications activities must add to more than a series of isolated events such as the dissemination
of an occasional press release. Being strategic requires more deliberate, innovative communication practice –
communications are essential to overall success of organisations”.
Comment by: Julia Coffman

At The Managing Strategic Communications Forum you will:

• Analyse mechanisms to effectively engage top management – driving success from top to bottom
• Discover strategies to assess your organisation’s performance with regards to your communication
strategy
• Be exposed to top governmental and corporate organisations in South Africa who will share their
success stories
• Establish ways to enhance crisis management in your organisation

This conference is one of its kind as it addresses the challenges that communications executives
encounter. Don’t delay in booking your seat. Complete the registration form at the back of this brochure and fax it

WHY MANAGEMENT DOES NOT WORK ... AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT ... A CASE STUDY ON EFFECTIVE
COMMUNICATION TO GET RESULTS
Grant will use a practical case study from a successful private high-tech firm that develops GPS (global positioning system) and similar
products. They were recently caught off-guard by a competitor’s new product. When they pursued development of a directly competing
product, the projected costs threatened to scuttle the project. The key unit managers gathered in a number of contentious meetings
that featured anger, blame, and bewilderment, but produced no effective conclusion. At the end of the case it fell to the newly-
promoted executive vice-president, to push the group toward a go/no-go decision.

Learning Objective:
To examine conflict and communication within and between organisational groups. More specifically, to understand how organisational
decision-making can be affected by the personal style, departmental allegiances, and other characteristics and situational factors of
participants, as well as by group processes. Get the opportunity to analyse a tense managerial situation that demands a tactful but
decisive leadership response.

Subjects Covered:
• Strategic Communication
• Conflict Management
• Effective Decision Making
• Understanding Group Dynamics
• Human Resources Management
• Successful Leadership Skills
• Managing Organisational Behavior
