 Wipro is a major business establishment in India. It deals

primarily in software products and related services.
 It is regarded as a leading provider of integrated business
process and technological solutions.
 Wipro Technologies has been operating on a global basis. It
has been rated as largest independent provider of research
and development services. It earns more than half a billion
dollars through research and development services. It is also
counted as being one among three leading offshore BPO
services provider.
 Headquarters of Wipro is located at Bangalore, India.
 ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT
SYSTEM
 Wipro Technology has been awarded the ISO 14001 certification
for complying with the international standards for Environmental
Management System (EMS) in three major software development
and technology centre's in Bangalore.
 The three objectives of the certification audit done by DNV were
Energy Conservation, Waste Management and Environmental
Legal Compliance.
 Wipro's initiative towards an eco-friendly environment started in
1997, said Mr. S. Mohan Rao, Vice President, Operations and
Infrastructure, Wipro Technologies.
 Being a software company, Wipro Technologies does not pollute
the atmosphere as a manufacturing industry would do. Hence, we
looked at areas where we could minimize usage of natural and
precious resources and eliminate the usage of harmful materials.
 LIFECYCLE PRODUCT
RESPONSIBILITY
Wipro made significant progress on the green PC on all 3
dimensions- Energy Efficiency, RoHS & Take-Back Program. It
is 100% recyclable & toxin-free.
 The PCs & laptops reached a level of 99.99% compliances with
RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) standards.
 As of March 2009, 16% of desktop models & 30% of laptops
were energy star 4 certified: this translates into 12-15% more
energy efficiency.
 The Take-Back program showed evidence of increased customer
interest with steady increase in desktop & laptop returns.
 ENERGY & GREENHOUSE GAS
(GHG) INTENSITY

 Robust process defined & implemented for GHG

measurement across all dimensions – electricity, business
travel computing , waste & fuel for heating.
 The GHG foot prints for the IT business stands at 4.31 tons
per employee per annum & 89 tons per million USD of
revenue.
 Over a 5 years periods, energy efficiency has improved by
nearly 19% .
 WATER EFFICIENCY

 Extensive water treatment in combination with rain water

harvesting ensure that 32% of their total water requirements
is met through recycling & harvesting.
 Fresh water consumption of 1600 liters per employee per
month.
 The Manikonda community lake in Hyderabad was restored
after de-silting & cleaning for use by the local community.
WASTE RECYCLING & POLLUTION
MITIGATION

 First successful implementation of kitchen waste to heat

conversion bio-gas plant at their electronic city facility in
Bangalore, India.
 First successful implementation of paper recycling plant at
their electronic city facility in Bangalore, India.
 Significant increase in the quantum of e-waste disposed
safely-71785 units of e-waste were disposed through certified
vendor.
 Wipro become the first Indian it service provider to be
awarded gold level status in Microsoft’s windows embedded
partner program.

 Worlds first IT service company to use six sigma.

 Wipro technologies winner of Indian MAKE (Most Admired

Knowledge Enterprise)Awards 2008.

 Wipro wins international institute for software testing’s

software testing best practice award.
