Yourdad,Dr.Hughes,willremember(andIthinkyoumayalsoremember;howr$esaid that two seniorswouldhaveto choosebetweentheirinvolvementinaso-calledChristianrockmusicgroupandtheirremainingasPensacolaChristianSchoolstudents).Onestudentdecidedtoquittherockmusicalgroup(sponsoredbyhisownchurch)andstay'inPensacolaChristianSchool,andthe otherstudentwithdrewas astudent.l^let^rerecriiicized by the SouthernBapt'istrninisterialgloup'fcrourposition,threatsweremadebysomeofthesepreacherstopubliclyexposewhattheycalledour narrow-minded,separatedposition.YourdadoDr.Hughes,andseveralother ministerswhohadchildreninPensacolaChristjan,defendedus inthe ministerial meetingandas a result nothingcameof their threats.Iamrelatingthis incidentsothatyouwillrememberthatourpresentpositionis nothingnewand itcertain'lyhasnoprejudicewhatsoeveragainstyou--itisjustourfirmconvictionbeforeGodthatmus.icthathonors theLordmustbe divorcedfromtheworldlyrockbeatofpresentday rock androll music"Charles,Ipersona'l1ywashorrifiedat the record"Something0ld,SomethingNew"byMarkLowery. Therefore,wecouldnot haveyouspeaktoouryoungpeople(eventhoughyoudidn'tbringyoursoloist along);yetsomeofouryoungpeoplewouldnaturallygotoCrossroadBaptisttohearyou,andthere theywouldhear the"sweetrock"beat toChristiansongsandthere therecords(like"somethingNew,Some-thing 0ld") wouldbesold.Thiscausesconfusionto the studentsoitteachesthat theydon'thavetomakea completebreakwith theworld andtheworld'smusic.
