We want to take time on this special day to honor those whoserve as ambassadors for Oklahoma Christian University andCascade through their scholarly activities. Oklahoma Christianand Cascade College are blessed to have faculty members whoare excellent classroom teachers and who care deeply aboutthe students, but we also have many faculty members who havegained distinction through their scholarship during 2007 - 2008academic year.As a community of scholars, we often do not know much aboutthe work of our colleagues. We welcome this time to learn moreabout the work being done by our wonderful colleagues and wethank them for the work they are doing to bring additional – andwell-deserved – recognition to OC and Cascade.We would also like to thank Tamie Willis, the Director of theBeam Library, and her staff for organizing this year’s FacultyColloquium.Sincerely,Dr. Allison D. In 2006, Don Millican, the chairman of Oklahoma ChristianUniversity’s Board of Trustees, established and funded theFaith and Learning Essay Competition. The purpose of theCompetition is “to encourage careful thought and campus-wide conversation on the subject of faith and learning in theclassroom.” Chairman Millican hoped, in particular, to encouragethe faculty of Oklahoma Christian University and CascadeCollege to share pedagogical techniques with one another andto develop a collection of essays covering practical suggestionsfor the integration of faith in the classroom. Each faculty essayis accompanied by a student essay that reects on the impact ofthe technique used.We are pleased this year to honor the rst Faith and LearningEssay Competition award recipients:Paul HowardAssistant Professor of MathematicsCascade College (with student Rebecca Pack)Dr. LeeAnne ParisAssistant Professor of Library ScienceOklahoma Christian University(with student Jean Pierre Karenzi)Dr. Brian SimmonsProfessor of CommunicationCascade College (with student Laura Stuckemeyer)Each faculty award recipient received a check for $800, andeach student award recipient received a check for $400.Oklahoma Christian University and Cascade College extendtheir thanks to Chairman Millican for establishing the Faith andLearning Essay Competition and for providing partial funding forthe 2008 Faculty Colloquium. In addition, OC and Cascade wishto thank Dr. Scott Lamascus (OC), Dr. Darin Martin (OC) and Dr.Darren Williamson (Cascade) for serving as the judges.
