IN?

TO BEGIN!

Set in the future, the world is nearing the final cycle of modernity. We find a world strung up on futurism, the Italian movement born back in 1909, breath'd afresh in the year 2211!

The world is a different place to the one we know. Everybody has embraced futurism; the drive & power that modern machinery brings them. Cloning, space-hohdays, portal travel etc. This is a world obsessed with

movement & growth.

The show follows the wanderings of Futurist-poet, Vittorio, a.k.a the narator. He entices & splices his way through the world, diagnosing it's dialogues and differences.

In the pilot episode, he is documenting the ways of the old breed of fisherman. These are the people still catching fish using rods and nets, 'Ha! Fools . .' scorns Vittorio.

He will compare them to 'modern' methods:- blowing fish out of the water, magnetising their food and sucking them up, etc. He looks at the world with his biased-futurist slant, eve!)'lhi 51 else is futile.& worthless.

THE NARRATOR the narrator is a celebrity in the futurist world, having carved a niche out for himself as 'the voice of reason on historical speculation'. that's his job and his duty, to give informed opinion on his made up, historical inaccuracies.

his ego inflates in each steam-rolled sentence, his bias unwilling to reflect another point of view. and why should it? for he is the peoples voice of reason.

He is very much the David Attenbrough of the futurist world. What he intends to do is exhibit the past. But he can't help but do so through rose-tinted futurist glasses, causing him to destroy any image of the past that does not correspond with modern thought.

the man speaks in poetic prose. His one liners roll off the tongue.

This is a philisophical man. an intellectual; & as charismatic

as one so

ignorant must

be.

II pescivendolo.

The fishmonger. One of the few 'people'left in derelict old Venezia. He wonders daily through the old streets in search of his cretinous fish .. in search of life.

He lives in a half sunken Venetian villa that was abandoned long ago by the rightful owner.

He wakes early with the sun and goes out catching fish until midday, when he retires for the day, ready to do it all again the next.

IL PILOTA THE PILOT

In the pilot episode, I will follow the lowly fishmonger on his voyage of livelihood through old Venezia. We will watch him catch fish by hand, using old nets & rods. We will watch him carry his catch, in a sack slung across his ageing back. I will enter his mind, and discover why, WHyhe chooses to live life as such.

Next month, my crew will be on location to witness the construction & demolition work beginning to relocate the old Rialto bridge to downtown Milan.1 will reveal these plans to the audience for the restructuring of old Venezia. In its place shall be a thunderous new dock for space ships, so that people from far away can travel direct to Venezia and see what it has become. We intend to let it be the tourist destination it once was, rather than the derelict state it has become.

So as such, I shall be following this fish monger as we re-tame his habitat. Some buildings will have to be ripped down and out of place, and I shall document the effect it has on the marauders that call Venice home.

THE TWIST OF THE SHOW

A lot of emphasis of the show rests on this twist. It's the idea that shapes the show, its interpretation by the audience, and essentially if they 'get' it .

The twist is that this is a documentary set in the future, that is made for people living in the future. This principle must be understood by all working on the show.

Think back to when you've seen an old documentary, or perhaps a promotional video from the 40's/SO's. Because of how dated the recording is, it actually adds a new edge to it and makes it humorous.

Now this of course wasn't intended by the lovely people that made it! However to modern eyes, it appears so.

This is it- this is the essence of the comedy in the show. It must seem as if the viewer is looking in through a time capsule and seeing this bazaar documentary.

And as such, the presenter must not become a two dimensional joke. He mustn't rely purely on the comedy, and must seem as if he is being serious. This way, we . are laughing at the absurdity of what he is saying and how out of touch it is to us, rather than laughing purely at him.

I want the show to be a wolf in sheep clothing; beneath the fun facade is a terrifying look at a brutally inhumane dystopia built only on the

loves of futurism - speed & power.

EPISODES IN BRIEF

There will be two other episodes in the series, each of them running for one hour. If the series takes off, more will be planned and produced on other subjects such as religion, war, an episode of futurist propaganda, and so on.

VITTORIO: AN INTRODUCTION TO PAST ART Marinetti believed that it was right for us to occasionally visit museums (places that he was full of scorn & hatred for) - like an annual pilgrimage, he just asked that we don't bask in them to much. In this episode I shall visit the wonderful electronic useum of Florence to study the works of past-art.

FISHMONGER INSPIRA TI

EARLY CHARACTER To be honest, there wasn't a lot of trial and error in creating DEVELOPMENT OF the narrator character, as he is a direct pastiche of F.T MariTHE FISH MONGER netti. Marinelli is a well rounded character, the creator of futurism and it's voice. He is someone who could of slipped into television work. And this is what the Narrator is doing.

what is essentially the first and last image I did of the Narrator

This early drawing I did also inspired the idea of a hexagonal head. Using straight lines and shapes is an infiuence of the futurist style.

EARLY CHARACTER To the right is the first attempt at drawing the DEVELOPMENT OF firshmonger character, although this did come ilfter THE FISH MONGER heavy research. I'd already decided what 'type' of character I wanted him to be, as you can see specified on the Fishmonger inspiration page. I wanted him to look a bit dull; be somewhat like an anim'al in a nature documentary: nameless. I also wanted- im to look a little simillar to Brian Clough, mainly hls eyes. He had very sympathetic eyes and this is 'Yhat I wanted to borrow for my character.

And to the left, are some more early drawings. I decided I wanted him to look younger than above. Young but old .. a young brain on older shoulders. Brian Clough again fit the bill.

FUTURIST WORLD CONCEPT ART

Here are a few bits of concept art of the futurist world. On the left is a digital sketch of Florence in flames, and on the right is how Milan looks in the futurist world.
