5246 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd Lynwood, CA 90262, (310) 886-5200Dear Future Falcon Parents and Student-Athlete,My name is Glenn Gates and I am the new head football coach at FirebaughHigh School. I am very excited about the future of Falcons Football. I am writing toyou to encourage your son to participate in our freshman football program. TheFalcons Football staff is committed to the development of our football players, inhopes to become a varsity football. There are no cuts in freshmen football. Thoughwinning is important, (everyone likes to win) we want freshman football to be a fun,positive learning experience for all student-athletes involved. We emphasizefundamentals, conditioning, and safety.The freshmen team desires to get as many athletes involved as possible. Belowis an outline of important dates of our program for you and your son to review.
Important Dates:
June 11 –
Parent/Player Meeting –
9:00 AM – High School CafeteriaThis mandatory meeting for all of next year’s players (even for next year’sfreshmen) is our spring kick-off. All information for the summer and followingfall will be presented. Refreshments will be provided. This is a very importantmeeting.
June 14 -
Start summer weight training and speed improvement.
We would like all freshmen to attend this program. Our program is designed toprepare the student-athlete for the competitive schedule in the fall. Weighttraining improves competitiveness, creates team unity and has been shown todecrease injuries.
August 4 –
FIRST DAY OF PRACTICE.
During the pre-season, practices will take place from 8 am to 2:30 pm. Duringthe school year, practices will take place from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm.
Early August –
Equipment Issue
– 8:00 – 11:00 AMFirebaughFootball team will SUPPLY ALL EQUIPMENT, except for shoes. TheFirebaugh High School athletic program has made a commitment to providingyour son with excellent equipment.
Conclusion
Freshman football can be a very rewarding experience. Playing a sport can teachimportant values that will help them prepare student athletes for challenges that lieahead during their high school days and beyond. We encourage your son to give it atry.
