Industrial psychology

The word Psychology is the combination of two terms-


study(ology) and soul(psyche) or mind. These words have been
derived from Latin. It is science of human behavior because it
collects facts about behavior by utilizing methods of science.
Definition
• According to Gene zimmer, “the study of soul
and mind.”
• It does not deal with opinions or beliefs.

Organisational psychology
• This branch is also known as industrial psychology. It is meant to improve
the efficiency and effectiveness of business organizations while solving
problems . It seeks to identify the leadership styles ,organizational
conflicts and the psychological characteristics of the workplace so that
there may be considerable improvement in the functioning state of
business.
Social psychology
• While dealing with the social behaviour on the
one hand it is meant to help the people in
solving their social problems on the other. It is
focused on how the role of society and its
culture influence in the development of one’s
personality.
Clinical psychology
It deals with mental, emotional and abnormal
behavior of the people. It seeks to help the
people come out of their mental disorders.
Counseling psychology
• It is concerned with the problems of every day
life, concerning academic, social, emotional,
occupational and organizational. They acquire
reasonable knowledge of their field and help
their clients to overcome situations causing
everyday stress. They are employed in
colleges, universities and hospitals.
Educational psychology

It deals with educational processes and practices


and is focused on how individual learns
through educational settings. It is concerned
with teaching methodologies and processes.
Developmental psychology

it studies how various forms of behavior


develop and grow in time as man grows in his
age.
Experimental psychology

It use experimentation as a method of studying


behavior and discovering the principles that
govern behavior.
Psychometrics

• It is concerned mainly with the accurate


description and measurement of psychological
characteristics of human beings.
Personality psychology

• It attempts to build up a comprehensive


picture of human personality.
