PREFACE
This book is for the prospective, beginner andexperienced beekeeper, who wants a simple methodof looking after a few hives for small-scale productionof honey, beeswax, pollen and propolis – or just forthe fun of having some bees around.
This does not pretend to be a complete work onbeekeeping and it assumes that at least someknowledge of the subject has already been acquiredfrom other sources, and that you are prepared to readmore widely. My aim is to demonstrate that beekeeping does notneed to be difficult, time-consuming, expensive orneedlessly complicated and that almost anyone –including people with disabilities and mobility problems– can learn about, practise and benefit from thisfascinating and absorbing activity. Everything neededfor 'barefoot beekeeping' can be made at home usinghand tools and only basic skills. It is written by an English beekeeper and while theprinciples are universal, local climate, flora, seasonalweather conditions and experience will dictatevariations in your approach that should be followedmore assiduously than anything written here.Readers are encouraged to join our worldwide 'naturalbeekeeping' forum, where ideas and knowledge arefreely shared.
