COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Consist ent wit h t he st udent ’s professional background and work- environm ent , t he
st udent will be required t o carry out work- orient ed proj ect independently. The st udent
would be required t o select an area of work t hat is considered vit al t o t he em ploying
organization. The student, in consultation with his/her Mentor, prepares the topic of the
proj ect and det ailed proj ect out line. The st udent carries on wit h t he work- centered
proj ect , adhering t o t he guidelines provided in t he course handout , t aking all t he
prescribed evaluat ion com ponent s on t im e. At t he end of t he sem est er, t he st udent
should subm it a com prehensive Proj ect Report t o t he I nst it ut e for evaluat ion. The
st udent will be evaluat ed on t he basis of t he various int erim evaluat ion com ponent s,
cont ent s of t he report and Sem inar/ Viva- Voce t hat m ay be conduct ed at BI TS, Pilani.

Important Note:
1. Alongwit h t he Proj ect Work Out line ( EC- 1) evaluat ion sheet , t he st udent m ust give det ails
of proposed t opic of Proj ect Work, obj ect ives, m et hodology, references, part iculars of
Supervisor as well as one additional examiner in terms of Name, Designation, Qualification
and address.
2. The Mid- Sem est er Progress Evaluat ion is t o be based on Work Progress, Mid- Semester
Report and the Mid- Semester Seminar/Viva
3. The Cover Page and t hird Page ( Cert ificat e from supervisor) of Final Proj ect Work m ust be
as given in Appendix- I.

m ake a present at ion for 20 m inut es using Microsoft PowerPoint or Overhead Proj ect or
t ransparencies. The present at ion will be followed by viva- voce for about 15 m inut es.
St udent s doing soft ware developm ent proj ect s m ust be prepared t o dem onst rat e t heir
soft ware product during t heir present at ion. I n case t he dem onst rat ion of t he cannot be
shown due t o som e t echnical or business reasons, t he st udent should bring a let t er from
the employing organization to that effect.

7. Any student who fails to complete the Project Work by the stipulated deadline and /or fails
t o appear for viva- voce at BI TS, Pilani will be declared as Required t o Regist er Again
( RRA) in t his sem est er and will be required t o regist er again in Proj ect Work wit h full fee
payment in a subsequent semester.

Topics for Project work must be chosen only among the following broad areas:

analytical, application- oriented and should involve substantial research and development effort

Mere configurat ion, inst allat ion and rout ine m aint enance, support or m anagem ent of syst em s
or equipm ent will not be considered adequat e for a Proj ect Work. Mere survey of
literature/data collection would also not be acceptable as a Project Work.
