A Campaign of the Importance of Reading

Thesis:

Reading habit is poor among Indonesians because most people haven’t realized the importance of
reading

Argument 1

Reading is important to transform knowledge and technology. By reading, one knows the world. He
or she will understand what he doesn’t see by himself or herself. The lines of the paragraphs in an
article contain pieces of knowledge. The knowledge is needed to improve the quality of human’s life.
Technology transformation from other country can only be done by reading a lot various sources of
literature. Valuable books in libraries and bookstores mean nothing if they are not read.

Argument 2

Realizing the importance of reading will make someone motivated to read. When we know that
something is very important because it can give us valuable information, we will try to get or do the
thing. For example, a businessman who always follows latest information or news, will know what to
do in his/ her business. He will make a good decision to make a transaction. Most people in all
developed countries have realized the importance or reading and they have good reading habits. In
bus and train stations, vehicles, waiting rooms, parks, people like reading. They enjoy reading which
gives them valuable knowledge and inspiration.

Argument 3

A good understanding toward the importance of reading can be achieved by well organized and
effective campaign. To plant an understanding in a generation’s minds is not an easy job. It needs a
hard work from all components of the nation, especially the government. A serious campaign which
is organized by the central and local government can help common people wake up and stand to
face the real competition. The campaign can be done through various kinds of mass media such as
TV, radio, booklets, bulletins, newspapers, magazines. It can also be conducted by teachers, parents
and all people who care.

Recommendation

Therefore, a nation-wide effective campaign of the importance of reading by all components of the
nation should be done, facilitated by the government, to face the tighter competition. The world has
forced globalization. Those people with little knowledge will be left behind. To speed up the better
change in this country, a good reading habit is really important.

Corruption
Thesis
(Announcement of issue concern)

Do you know what the meaning of corruption is? What is the relation between money and
corruption? Well, corruption is common everywhere in the world, even in the United States. It’s just
a matter of intensity. However, it is quite shocking when one reliable survey claims Jakarta as the
most corrupt place in Indonesia.

Argument 1

The survey has made me sad, actually, because I stay and earn a living here in the capital. As most
people know, Tanjung Priok port smuggling is not a new thing at all. Entrepreneurs who want to
minimize their tax payments tend to do such a thing more often. They even bribe the officials.

Argument 2

Well, I think the measures taken so far to overcome the problem by punishing the corruptors is still
not far enough. We have to prevent the younger generations from getting a bad mentality caused by
corruption.

Recommendation

I believe we should start at the earliest stages in school and I think everyone should be involved in
the effort to eradicate corruption. We must not make any distinction.

 Global Waming:
Global warming is a complex phenomenon, and its full-scale impacts are hard to predict far
in advance. But each year people learn more about what causes global warming.

Argument 1   :
People argue that vehicles and industries pollution make global warming
happen.                       We know that emission gas of industries and vehicles cause increasing
of carbon dioxide and air vapor in atmosphere which makes world temperature hotter, called
greenhouse effect.

Argument  2  :
Illegal logging is one of causes global warming. For example, in our country, Indonesia,
illegal logging is most popular activity. Many people, government or commoners like do it.
Ironic, they know, if they cut trees more and more, temperature of world will increase.
Consequently, Earth to be hotter. But no one care with this problem.

Argument 3   :
Using electricity much more, cause temperature of earth warm up. In common, people
produce energy with fossil power that makes carbon dioxide in atmosphere increase.

Recommendation:
Finally, I think that people must be more care about
this phenomenon. Some activity can us do to reduce effect of global

Human beings endeavour for establishing colonies in the space is unrealistic and is a waste of . limited resources
on the earth.

[Argument 1 + Evidence for]

It has been 30 years since the United states successfully had its man landed on the moon and since then,
countries like the US, the former Soviet Union and China have spent huge amount of manpower and money for
the exploration of the outer space, mostly for military purpose. However the human beings have not benefited
from such heavy investment. On the contrary, lives were lost in a number of accidents, including the explosion
of a US spacecraft.

The increased exploration, much in the name of establishing human colonies, is more or less the result of
extensive arms race between a few powerful countries, which may accelerate the destruction of the earth itself.
With advanced technologies gained from such attempts, human beings are in the jeopardy of a few who control
the technologies.

[Argument 3 + Evidence for]

Our resources are very limited, and should be used for the benefit of the general public on the earth, many of
them still fighting for adequate food and clothing. If the amount of money used for space development in the US
are diverted to fighting against poverty, the whole Africa can be benefited. And if the current space technologies
are used for the civil purpose, the productivity of the developing countries can be raised significantly.

Increased publicity of establishing human colonies in the space will also make people less treasure the limited
resources on the earth and dream that for one day we can move to another planet and explore the abundance of
resources there. But do we have an idea even vaguely,

Stop space race! And use our resources for the well-being of the earth and its residents!
 Title;Should Ads be Banned from TV programs?
Thesis;

ads on TV. There are so many ads,

especially during my favorite programs.
I think they should be stopped for a number
of reasons.

Arguments:

First, ads are nuisance. They go on

for a long time and there are so many.
Sometimes there seems to be more ads
than programs.

Second, ads area bad influence on people. They try to encourage people to buy unhealthy
food like beers, soft drinks,candies, and chips. In other words,they make people want things
they do not really need and cannot afford.

Finally, ads play role in what programs people watch. That is because there are
lots of ads in popular programs that a lot of people watch.Some Programs which are not so
popular get stopped Because they do not attract enough ads,even though those programs may
be someone’s I am writing to complain about favorite

Recomendation;

For those reasons, I think TV stations should stop Showing ads, they interupt
programs.They area bad influence on people and they some times put a stop to
people favourites shows. I am sick of ads and now I mostly watch movie in cinema.
 Country Concern
THESIS
In all discussion over the removal of lead from petrol (and the atmosphere) there doesn’t
seem to have been any mention of the difference between driving in the city and in the
country.

ARGUMENTS 1
While I realize my leaded petrol car is polluting the air wherever I drive, I feel that when you
travel through the country, where you only see another car every five to ten minutes, the
problem is not as severe as when traffic is concentrated on city roads.

ARGUMENTS 2
Those who want to penalize elder, leaded petrol vehicles and their owners don’t seem to
appreciate that in the country there in public transport to fall back upon and one’s vehicle is
the only was to get about.

RECOMMENDATION
I feel that country people, who often have to travel huge distance to the nearest town and who
already spend a great deal of money on petrol, should be treated to the people who live in the
city.
 A seat belt

Thesis :

A seat belt, sometimes called a safety belt, is a safety harness designed to secure the
occupant of a vehicle against harmful movement that may result from a collision or a
sudden stop. Why should we use seat belt.

argument 1 :
As part of an overall occupant restraint system, seat belts are intended to reduce injuries by
stopping the wearer from hitting hard interior elements of the vehicle or other passengers
(the so-called second impact) and by preventing the wearer from being thrown from the
vehicle.

argument 2 :
During 2004, total accident in DKI Jakarta are 4.544 cases, with 1.146 death victims, 63% of
that accident victims didn’t use seat belt . If we use seat belt, we will be safe if an accident
happening to us. Of course it will decrease the number of death by fatal accident. This fact
makes us realize that if we don’t use seat belt, we will endanger our life. So it’s very
important to use seat belt.

argument 3 :
For some people, using seat belt makes journey uncomfortable, makes us can’t move freely,
etc. But if we used to wear it, it will be our habit. We will feel more and more comfortable if
we often use it. Regardless of whether it is comfortable or not, it is very important for us to
use seat belt, to save our life.

RECOMMENDATION
From the above reasons, there is not any reasons for us not to use seat belt. There are so
many advantages of using seat belt. And so many disadvantages will we have if we do not
use seat belt. I think we have to rely on one thing: our safety. Protection is better than
curing. So, wear and fasten seat belt!
 SHOULD CHILDREN WEAR HATS AT SCHOOL?
Thesis
I believe that you should always wear a hat at school when you are playing outside , to stop
you from getting sunburn.

(Argument 1):
 Firstly, if you don’t wear a hat, you will get sunburn ant the sunburn is painful.

(Argument 2):
Secondly, sunburn could lead to skin cancer. Sunburn can lead to health problems later in
life. Many older people suffer from skin cancer which can kill them.

RECOMMENDATION
In my opinion all school students should wear hats.
