Vision Australia is currently partnering with Colmar Brunton, Australia’slargest independently-owned market and social research agency, toconduct a research project in order to identify current and futureinformation-based opportunities for people who are blind or have lowvision. The overall aim of the research is to “obtain a detailed understanding aboutthe usage and attitudes of people who are blind or have low vision in regardsto accessing and using information in their daily lives and the role that onlineinformation channels play”.The project will be conducted in two parts:
Firstly Culmar Brunton will work with a small group of people who areblind or have low vision to gain a detailed understanding of theirinformation needs and how they address these.
In late May and June they will then test the information gained fromthis initial group by conducing telephone interviews with around 300people across Australia. The results of this research will then inform the ongoing planning anddevelopment of Vision Australia’s information services. In order to achieve the first part of this research, Culmar Brunton arecurrently looking for people who are blind or have low vision, who do notuse Vision Australia’s information services and would like to participatein the research. The research program includes a daily five minutetelephone interview for seven days followed up by a final one-hourtelephone in-depth interview. We are currently recruiting for this research on a national basis. If afamily member or friend, (who is blind or has low vision and doesn’tcurrently use Vision Australia’s Information services) is interested involunteering for this research then please encourage them to phoneCulmar Brunton on 1800 185 570 or email orjimena.delarocha@cbr.com.au Culmar Brunton will then ask them aseries of screening questions to determine if they qualify for the researchstudy. We are seeking involvement from people with various levels of visionloss; participation in this research is on a confidential basis andidentifiable details of interviews will not be passed back to VisionAustralia. Those people who are not selected for this first phase of theresearch may be invited to be part of the larger second phase. If at any time you have any questions about the research project pleasecontact Colmar Brunton’s Project Manager, Jimena De la Rocha on: 02)
