S.SuhoskinotedthatmoredamagingisthepotentialimpactofreferendumQuestion#3,whichseeksimmediateroll-backofsalestaxto3%,whichwouldcreateanadditional$2.5billionbudgetgap.TheMMAhasestimatedtheimpactofQuestion#3onallmunicipalitiesandschooldistricts.Ifthisquestionpasses,theestimatedimpactonSturbridgewillbe:Lossof$906,083toTantasquaRegionalSchoolDistrictLossof$271,830toSturbridgeschoolaidLossof$74,729toSturbridgegenerallocalaidHenotedthattheTownandschooldistrictwouldfacedrasticservicereductionsiffacedwitha$1.25millioncutinstateaid.Asleadersofthecommunity,theBoardandTownAdministratorneedtoeducatethepublicaboutthisveryrealthreat.M.DowlingsuggestedthattheBoardvoteonitatthenextmeeting.Shefeltthatitwouldhurtmunicipalitiesifitpasses.M.Blanchardagreedthatitwouldhaveadrasticimpactonallcommunities,andurgedeveryonetovote"no"onQuestion#3.T.CreameragreedwithM.DowlingandM.Blanchard,andsaidthatifitpassed,therewouldbeconsequencesthatwillimpacttheTowninanegativeway,andthepublicshouldbeinformedofthat.S.GarierinotedthatSturbridgebordersConnecticut,wherethesalestaxislower.HesaidthatloweringthesalestaxwouldallowbusinessesinthisareaneedtobeabletocompetewiththebusinessesinConnecticut.T.CreamerpointedoutthattheTownhasworkedtoimprovethebusinessclimatebytransitioningtoasingletaxrate,whichhadreducedtheburdenonbusinesses,butsimultaneouslyshiftingalargerburdentoresidents.Hestatedthathewasn'tconvincedthatalowersalestaxwouldbenefitthecommunityenoughtowithstandaprojected$1.5milliondollarreductioninstateaid,whichmayresultinservicereductionsandpossiblejobcuts.HeremindedS.Garierithathecouldchoosetoabstainfromvotingifhewasunsureofwhattodo.S.Garierinotedthatthetaxfreeholidaybringsaspikeinbusiness.
