We call this newsletter “The Encourager.” The truth is,

it probably does more informing than encouraging. Still,
everybody needs encouraging. Life can weigh us down. It
is very important that you attach yourself to hopeful peo-
ple. That's one of the reasons why it's good to join a warm,
friendly church.
When it comes to encouragement, there are two types of
people. There are VIPs – very inspiring people, and there
are VDPs – very draining people. VIPs lift you up; you
need a lot of them. VDPs wear you down. You ought to
have some just as a ministry, but you need more inspiring
people around you. Positive people of faith are contagious.
In Salem, Oregon, there was a church who decided to
get serious about encouraging one another. They put
“Encouragement Cards” in the hymnal racks on each pew.
Each Sunday they asked the congregation to write a note of
encouragement to someone. They took time in the service
just for that. All the cards had to be signed. The cards were
then collected and mailed by the church office. You know
what they discovered? Those who gave encouragement
found encouragement by doing so. The lesson is clear: By
helping others, we help ourselves. Jesus said it this way, “It
is more blessed to give than to receive.” A Look Inside…
I am convinced there are people you know who are
“drying up on the vine” simply because no one has encour-
