The focus of my thesis will be on the novel as a text, on the author, and on

the historical issues as depicted in the trilogy of Rara Mendut, Genduk Duku,
and Lusi Lindri, referring to the actual issues occurred at Java at the setting of
time. My plan is to find out the correlation between place as in the setting of
place as a source of inspiration in which the author used to contextualize and
identify characters. Narrative techniques associated with places are used to
portray the inner feelings of characters and the identity is closely related to,
and often described as being a product of place and its culture associations.
To obtain those focuses, I will need to refer to the text itself as I have to find
the descriptions of places as the way the author choose to contextualize and
identify the characters. At the same time, I need to dig deeper also on the
author’s background that inspired him to create the description of places.
Whilst I also cannot disregard to have an overview on the historical
background of Java at that time since portrayal of the characters and their
identity are often described as being a product of place and its cultural
associations.
