This handbook has been developed to assist nodal officers of the
 
states anddistricts in the implementation of Maternal Death Reviews (MDR), as per thepolicy of Government of India. It contains a more in depth explanation of theroles and responsibilities at different levels, how to conduct the trainings andorientation sessions of stakeholders and a detailed guide for trainers andinterviewers who will conduct interviews with bereaved families in thecommunities.A few revisions have been made based on the recommendation of thenational core group on MDR to the questionnaires for both the communitybased and facility based MDR, as well as the other formats. The modifiedformats are included here.All states will also receive a CD, in addition to this guidebook, which alsocontains PowerPoint presentations from the National Orientation Workshopin New Delhi December 10
th
and 11
th
2010, as well as presentations that should be used while training the community interviewers. It also includes arole-play guide to be used during the same training.
