Communications Intern

Denver Art Museum


Summer 2011

Position Purpose

• Communications Interns are assigned a variety of projects to further their understanding


of the communications and media relations field while gaining valuable, real-world
experience.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

• Main intern duties include but are not limited to:


o Assisting the team in researching and developing news releases, pitches and
other media materials;
o Developing and implementing media outreach plans;
o Assisting in the creation and implementation of social media programs including
Facebook, Twitter and YouTube;
o Proofing collateral, including calendar listings;
o Copying and archiving media clips;
o Assisting in the planning, implementation and staffing of special events;
o Attending communication team meetings;
o Providing administrative assistance when needed.

Much of the work will support major events and exhibitions including the summer blockbuster
Marvelous Mud and upcoming fall exhibitions.

• Interns commit to 15-20 hours a week for the spring semester, scheduling is flexible.

Education or Formal Training

Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate program in Journalism, Communications or


English academic studies. Must have a strong interest in public relations and communications
coursework, electronic and social media, as well as excellent written and verbal skills.

Candidates are encouraged to have and communicate in correspondence a strong idea of


what they would like to learn from their internship experience.

Additional Information

This is a part-time internship that can be used for academic credit, and includes great perks but
