This book could not have
been
written without the unselfish.dedicated, and knowledgeable assistance of hundreds of peoplethroughout the world who offered me immeasurable support
in
my research and provided me with rare documents, reports, forgotten files, and back issues of early journals and puhlica-dons. The back issues of the Aerial Phenomena Research Or-ganization (APRO)
Bulletin
(3910
E.
Kleindale Road, Tuc-son, Arizona
85716)
and the British journal
Flying
Saucer
Review
(49a Kings Grove, London
SE
15,
England) were espe-dally valuable, since they had carefully recorded the generalhistory of the
UFO
phenomenon
tor
the past fifteen years.
I
also
owe a large debt to those people who have worked
for
many years without reward, often suffering considerable ridi-cule and even persecution tor their perseverance. There aremany who have asked to remain anonymous, such
as
policeofficers, sheriffs, and local officials who quietly kept me
in-
formed of developments in their areas. And there were
also
several hundred
local
newspaper editors, reporters, andstringers who cooperated with me
in
every possible way andprovided me with much valuable background information. Inaddition to
this
group,
here were thousands of
readers
of mynewspaper features
and
magazine articles who wrote thoughtfulletters offering me testimony of their own sightingx and
ex-
periences.
