BOWLING IS SRI LANKA’S FORTE

1. Sri Lankan spin wizard Muthtaia Muralidaran once again confirmed that he is the
champion bowler for Sri Lanka, besides having many match winning bowlers. Even with the
swiftness and pace of slinger Malinga many western sides still display its difficulty against the
whirls of Murali. Despite the hamstring injury Murali demonstrated that he still a fighter and a
match winner by picking up 4 for 25 in 8 over’s. This gave the Sri Lankans full of confidence
and assurance before going in to the next stage of the games. Ajantha Mendis displayed his
magic and mystery by capturing 2 for 24. New Zealanders have not seen this man much and the
Lankans took the full advantage of it. Ajantha may appear in quarters predicting England or WI
in the bout. Now it’s more likely England, so Ajantha can prove himself once again and
Englishmen may feel it too hot to handle.

2. In subcontinent slow and flat wickets spinners always play a major role. While analyzing
the spin options in the side it is apparent that the Lankans has the best out of all. Indians do have
the likes of Harbajan and Ashwin but the variety and the mystery of these two spinners will put
them ahead of the Indians. It’s noteworthy what Dilshan did other day against the Zimbabweans.
So the Lankan do have an armoury of spinners supported by two good quickies while Mathews
and Perera will be handy in home conditions.

3. One must not forget the slower Ball of Dilhara and the ball which darts other way of
Rangana Herath’s. These two are still on the bench itching to deliver some delight in the grand
finale. All in all it is apparent that the bowling has been the strong point and it will be the
specialty in this flamboyant sri lankan side.
