CanConservartivesThriveintheNewClintonEra?
Theanswerisaresoundingyes-pro-videdconservativesdowhathastobedone.Infact,itispossiblethatconservativeswilldomuchbetterunderClintonthantheydidunderBush.Why?BecauseBush's"kinder,gentler"malarkyassuredtheliberalDemo-cratsthattheRepublicanpresidentwouldnotbeconfrontational,butconciliatoryandcompromising.Infact,hewassocompro-mising,soaccommodatingtotheleft,thatheallbutforgotthathewasaRepublicaneventhoughnotaconservativeRepublica.n.OnonlyoneissuedidBushremaintruetotheconservativesocialagenda:abortion.Heknewthatifherenegedonhispro-lifestandhewouldgodowninhistoryasanunmitigatedtraitortotheconservativecause.Hecouldfudgehiswayoutofbetrayinghis"readmylips"pledge,butnotabortion.Theformerinvolvedonlymoney,thelattermil-lionsofunbornlives.Bushshouldhaverealizedthattherea-sontheAmericanpeoplegavehima90percentapprovalratingafterbeatingSad-damHusseinwasbecausetheylikedhisdecisive,confrontational,no-holds-barredstandagainsttheButcherofBaghdad.TheyadmiredthewayinwhichhemobilizedAmericaandtheworldtoevicttheIraqisfromKuwait.Thatwasatrueexampleofboldleadership,awillingnesstotakerisksintheinterestofwhatheconsideredtobeajustandmoralcause.ButwhenitcametoconfrontingtheliberalCongress,wheretheAmericanpeoplehadhopedhe'dstandfirmandprotecttheirinterests,hecavedin.Hecompromised.Hebecame"kinderandgentler."HeforgotthelessonoftheGulf,andhisapprovalratingplummeted.Yes,theeconomyturnedsour.ButhadhestoodfirmagainstCongresshecouldhaveblamedtheirinsatiableappetitefortaxmoneyfortherecession.Instead,becauseofthetaxhikehesigned,
it
becameBush'srecessionandtheliberalDemocratsweremorethanhappytoputtheblameonhimateveryturn.Evenso,theAmericanpeoplewerenotfooled.TheydidnotgiveClintonmorethan43percentofthevote.ManyvotedforPerotbecausehehadthecouragetostanduptotheWashingtonpoliticiansandtell

TheTroubleWithModerates
ThetroublewithmoderateRepublicansisthattheyreallydon'tknowwhotheenemyis.Someofthese"moderates"areundoubt-edlyNewWorldOrderinsiderswhocon-siderconservativesandfundamentaliststobetheirrealenemy.Butthecountrydubbersaremoreinterestedinsocialadvancementandmaterialadvantagesthanideologyormoralabsolutes.AphotographwiththePresidentisworthmoretothemthanastandonprinciple.WhichiswhytheRepublicanPartycannotbelefttotheruinouscontrolofthemoderates.Tothempoliticalpowerisessentiallyaformofsocialclimbingandpersonalenhancement,notthemeansofdefendingaChristiancivilizationoradvane-ingtheideaofindividualfreedom.AdishearteningpictureofwhatamoderateRepublicancandotoasuccessfulconservativelegacywasgivenbyProf.Ben-jaminZycherin

likeBushcouldhavedisplayedforanentiretermsuchexquisitepolicyignoranceandpoliticalinepti-tude.Onlyanexecutiveutterlydevoidofjudgmentcouldhavebelievedintheskills,foresight,andwis-domofanentouragecomprisingthelikesofJamesBaker,NicholasBrady,andRichardDarman.Onlyafoolcouldhavebelievedintheviabilityof"biparti-sanship"amongaRepublicanpresident,thecongres-sionalDemocrats,and

AndonlyanutterincompetentcouldhavetransformedtheReaganbequest-thestrongesteconomyintheworld,thecollapseofstatesocialism,theendoftheColdWar,themostpowerfulandbroad-basedpoliti-calcoalitioninmorethanageneration,andaDemo-craticPartyindisarray-intothepoliticaldisasterofNovember3.
ThelessonofNovember3isquiteclear.Conservativesmustneverpermitanother"moderate"toleadtheRepublicanPartytoanotherdisasterlikethis.Conservativesmusttaketotalcontrolofthepartyandmakeittheirpartywhetherthemoderateslikeitornot.AndthentheymustfieldcandidateswhoknowhowtoselltheconservativemessageandcanrebuildthebroadcoalitionBushtoretopieces.Anyonewhohaslis-tenedtoRushUmbaughforanylengthoftimeknowswhatapowerfulmessagecon-servatismcanbewhenexpressedwithflair,goodhumorandimagination.
TheTrillion-DollarMess
In
thenextfouryears,theDemocratswillbe.inchargeofeverythinginWashing-ton.Thousandsofliberalswilltakeovereverypostheldbyconservatives.Theliber-alswillnodoubttakecreditforanythinggoodthatcomesoutofthatcity.ButsincenothinggoodcancomeoutofWashingtontheywillberesponsibleforthetrillion-dol-larbudgetmesstheycomeupwith.ProbablythemostnegativeaspectoftheClintonadministrationwillbeitsamoralcharacter.ThenewCommander-in-Chiefisadraft-dodger,aprevaricator,andanadul-tererwhofeelsquitecomfortablewithabor-tionistsandhomosexuals.

governseveryprofes-sionalassociationconnectedwithpubliceducation.Itisvirtuallywrittenintoeveryfederallawthatfundseducationandthegrantsthatfundeducationalresearchandtesting.Bypatronizingthepublicschools,con-servativesaresimplyturningtheirchildrenovertotheenemyforan"education.'MorelikelythannottheirchildrenwillemergefromtheprocessasliberalDemocratsorNewAgersorsecularhumanists.Andbynotsupportingconservativeprivateeduca-tion,conservativeswilldeprivetheprivatesectoroftheonlysourceoffinancialsupport

Thereisnodoubtthatwearegoingtoseeatremendousgrowthinthehorne-schoolmovementduringthenextfouryears.WiththeClintonEducationDepartmentcom-pletelycontrolledbyhumanists,liberals,andsocialis

promotingdeconstructionthrough-outthesystem,parentswillrealizethat
