10 Wicked Things You Can Do As An Alt

Are you one of what appears to be the minority, who does not have more than one Second
Life account? Some people use their “alt” account for money transactions separate to their
main avatar. I created my first alt to make double the amount of money camping in the days
of AFK and unlimited earnings. Anshe Chung has an account just for visiting mainland and
issuing quotes to potential sellers that is operated by three main people. So, we know that
alts make good business sense but, what do other people use their alternative accounts for?
Why do they feel the need for a third life?

1. Work in the sex industry

First up is me; I am guilty of doing wicked things as an alt and for a time was legendary for it.
One of my alts has worked as a Dancer and a Stripper in a Club to supplement my income
and did that for 3-months, but it was too regimented for me so she quit. I did get quite good at
emoting though. She escorted twice too, the first time her customer said he wanted to go to
the toilet on her among other cringe worthy things I won’t repeat here and the second time the
customer crashed 15 minutes into a 30 minute booking, never to return. The earth moved for
him.

2. Spy on your current or former lover

There are a lot of spy tools about now that make it possible to do many things, far easier.
Some of the things you can do may be in breach of community standards, or sailing close to
the wind in the morality stakes but I’ll leave that between you and your god. There are ways
you can test your partners’ fidelity as an alt and find out exactly what he gets up to when he
thinks you are offline. I know people who have done this and have created a whole new life
for their alt, which they seem to be enjoying a little too much….

3. Work under the covers as a Honeytrap

I did this once as an alt and it is not half as raunchy as it sounds. The virtual reality was I was
hired by a woman marrying her virtual lover who suspected he was cheating on her. I had to
test his fidelity and seduce him, he failed the test but there is nothing erotic about luring a
man you are not remotely interested in to bed and then spend the entire time taking quiet
snapshots to disk, screen captures and notecarding conversations – all the time with the
client crying in IM. She never married him by the way.
4. Become a Lesbian/Swap Gender

Ever wondered why there is such a large lesbian and bisexual population in-world?
Apparently, there are female lesbian avatars operated by men in Real Life to fulfill their
fantasies. A female bisexual friend of mine believes it is statistically impossible to have as
many broken microphones in-world as people claim to have. I know a man who has a female
alt and he did it to catch someone out who was spreading lies about him. He said he now
treats women in-world better as a result of his female alt experiences.

5. Become a Gorean Role Player

I know people who have explored role play as alts, and stayed because they enjoyed it so
much. Some, of course, do use their main avatar too but it depends on the individual and
what their comfort zone is. I knew a scenario where a woman had a master and two female
slaves living on a Gorean island, her Real Life husband was extremely unhappy about it too.
I have noticed that more and more people I know are disappearing into role play never to
return. One person I know has kept his first land in case he ever wants to return to “Barbie
and Ken” world.

6. Indulge in kinky sex

Fancy an orgy tonight? Want to be tied up and spanked? Some people feel uncomfortable
doing things as their main avatar and like to slip under the radar to indulge their more extreme
sexual fantasies. Or they don’t want to be interrupted by their main avatars contacts while
they are otherwise occupied. Some don’t want to be interrupted by their main avatars partner
of course. People who frequently use alts often learn to disassociate the alt from their main
avatar in their mind.

7. Cheat on your partner

Is one partner not enough for you? Your current partner got you to commit when you weren’t
ready to? Or maybe your current partner is not online enough to service your sexual
appetite? Some people just don’t believe in fidelity but for reasons only known to themselves
they sneak around being unfaithful as alts, rather than telling their partner, others just like the
thrill of deceit.

8. Get peace and quiet

I used to do this a lot. I used to log on as an alt to make clothes in peace and quiet with no
group messages and notices to disturb me, and no one knowing where I was so no
interruptions relating to my other Second Life activities. I know a lot of people who do this
when they want to build without interruption.

9. Do mean things to griefers

I have visited griefers as an alt on several occasions. I think it is just easier to watch them in
their natural habitat to establish if they are a genuine threat or not and to identify any “link” –
Do we have a friend in common? Most are just sad, pathetic individuals with no first or
second life but I say keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.

10. Create your own husband

I did this once too. He was created for security as a man to leave standing around for
decoration purposes and then I partnered him to act as a deterrent to people making passes
at me while I was in my club working. Much like wearing a fake wedding ring. I dissolved the
partnership eventually but not for many months. I wasn’t remotely interested in Second Life
dating at that point and my fake husband served his purpose. Was he a deterrent? No, not
really. My friends referred to him as my handbag, I’d plant him on the dance floor and we
would dance around him.

Is there a moral to the tale? No not really, but if your Second Life is going well you won’t
need to log on as an alt very often, although sometimes it is nice to slip beneath the radar.
Some people convert their alts into their main avatars, often to avoid people or situations. But
then, it is their world, their imagination – Who are we to judge?
