Homework
Homework is a crucial piece in our educational journey.Students will be receiving homework each night not tolearn something new but simply to practice what theyhave learned that day. I believe students should receiveas much homework as the grade they are in. Therefore,in 5
th
grade, the students should receive around 50minutes per evening. Students will be asked tocomplete any unfinished work, complete one mathpractice sheet, and read for 20 minutes.
Reading Logs
Reading logs will be placed in student mailboxes eachMonday for them to bring home. This log will have thespelling list for the week, a weekly calendar of anyspecial events, and the homework your child shouldcomplete per night. Remember that this is subject tochange if receiving further notice from me. Students areexpected to read 20 minutes each night. I ask parentsto sign their initials in the place located if their child hascompleted their reading. This sheet will be returned toschool the following Monday.
Spelling Tests
Spelling words for the week will arrive home everyMonday afternoon. Students are expected to studythese words throughout the week at home.Complimentary to this studying, students will also becompleting tasks in class to help each become familiarwith these spellings. On Fridays of each week, studentswill take a spelling test given by myself. These tests arevital to each student’s ability to correctly spell and usecommon Standard English words. These words will beused often in their education and career futures.
Unit Tests
As we finish studying Social Studies, Science, and Mathunits or chapters, a culminating test will be given toasses the students on their knowledge of the topic. These tests will be known in advance to allow sufficientstudying. A study guide will also be given to ensurestudents are studying what is most important.
