March 7 - 11, 2011
Monday:
Saint & Art: Saints Perpetua & Felicity Coloring Pages
Goal: Students will learn about Saints Perpetua & Felicity
Activity: St. Perpetua said she could not be called anything but a Christian.
How can we live so that others can only call us Christians?

Prayer: “Saints Perpetua & Felicity, watch over all mothers and children who
are separated from each other because of war or persecution. Show a
special care to mothers who are imprisoned and guide them to follow your
example of faith and courage. Amen.

Tuesday (Mardi Gras/Shrove Tuesday):


Language Arts/Book: “Kids Around the World Celebrate!” by Lynda Jones
Goal: Students will learn about Carnival & Mardi Gras festivals

Art: Make Mardi Gras masks


Goal: Students will use their creativity to make Mardi Gras masks

Colors: Purple (Penance/Sacrifice), Gold (God’s power), Green (Faith)


Goal: Students will review the colors and learn their significance on Mardi
Gras

Prayer: “On this day of Mardi Gras, we celebrate with family and friends.
What a blessing it is to have fun with some of the special people in our lives.
As we look ahead to Lent, our preparation for Easter, we ask Jesus to be in
our hearts as we grow to be closer to him. Amen.”

Story: “A time for silliness” from The Big Book of Catholic customs and
traditions.

Dinner: Pancakes
Goal: Students will help make pancakes and learn the symbol of using up eggs
and butter by previous generations in preparation of the Lenten Season.

Ash Wednesday - NO MEAT:
Activity: Make a Crown of Thorns
Goal: Students will help create a crown of thorns. Throughout Lent, they will
remove a “thorn” each time they do something good.

Activity: Create an Almsgiving Craft


Goal: Students will help mommy create a cross with Almsgiving to be
removed each day during Lent to teach us to give to others.

Mass: Family Mass & receive Ashes.

Family Discussion: on prayer, penance, fasting & almsgiving. Parents will


choose what they will “give up” or “do extra.” Students will help decide what
they are going to “give up’ or “do extra.”

Family Reading: Daniel 9:3-5, 17, 18


Prayer: “Jesus, today is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Blessed
ashes mark our faith. They call us to repentance. Pardon our sins, O Jesus.
We are sorry for sometimes choosing not to follow your way. Please help us
to start over. Please help us begin today. May this season of Lent bring us
closer to you, our Amazing Grace. May we grow stronger in our commitment
to follow you more closely, day after day. Amen.

Thursday:
Art: Create a Prayer Book
Goal: Students will create and color a prayer book to help them with their
prayers and through Lent

Goal: Students will work on their Rosary Coloring books
