Question 1: In what ways didyour media project develop, challenge or use conventions of real media products?

W
hat conventions of the horror genre did I follow?
‡ I noticed that many horror trailers do not reveal the killers identity. I followed this convention byusing a mask. This helped my trailer to retain a mysterious atmosphere while rendering the killer emotionless, making him seem more in-human. It also makes it difficult for the audience to relateto the killer.‡ I have used low angle shots to make the killer seem powerful, and the victim seem vulnerable. This gives a feeling of helplessness and fragility.

‡ Using a high angle shot, I have made the audience perceive the teenagers as vulnerable. This isthe way I wanted to represent the victims, which is conventional to the horror genre. They are alsowalking on a narrow path which gives a more claustrophobic atmosphere and feelings of entrapment.‡ I have used alcohol to represent the stereotype of adolescents and the binge drinking culture. Thisis not specific to the horror genre but I have noticed it being used in some horror trailers and over a wide range of genres. It is the typical representation on youth. Alcohol generally makes peopleless coherent and therefore more defenceless which is how I was aiming to represent the victims. Here is an example of alcohol use in Friday 13
