he university has received adevelopment grant very early this 2011 or the continuingdevelopment o the echnology Business Incubator (BI).According to Vice Chancellor orResearch and Extension Dr. Enrico P.Supangco, the Department o Scienceand echnology (DOS) throughthe Philippine Council or Industry,Energy, and Emerging echnology Research and Development hasalready given the amount o P10Mto the UPLB Center or echnology ranser and Enterpreneurship or theull implementation o UPLB's BIinside the Science and echnology Park (SP).Te UPLB BI, a hub or inormationand communication technology andagribiotechnology, is expected tohelp commercialize the technologiesdeveloped by aculty, researchers andstudents o the university, and even by outside entities."Although we plan to reserve the startup spaces or clients coming romUPLB, we can also provide ocesor those who wish to conduct highlevel research and development," Dr.Supangco reported.wo incubator buildings are already inplace inside the UPLB SP, namely,the Food and Feeds Building andissue Culture Building.With the grant, additional moduleswill be put up in the third oor o the ACESME Building which willaccommodate up to 17 incubatees.Te incubatees, aside rom given ocespace, will be provided with basicurniture and Internet connection.Incubatees will also enjoy support inthe areas o business, administration,consultation, networking and otherservices which will be provided by theincubator.Part o the package or incubateesalso include training on enterprisedevelopment, intellectual property protection and other importantaspects in running businesses.Initially, the incubator project hastargeted the agribusiness students/technopreneurs rom the College o Economics and Management whonished the program on "Enhancingthe Demand or Agriculture, Forestry,and Natural Resources throughScience and ecnology" unded by the DOSPhilippine Council orAgriculture, Forestry and NaturalResources Research and Development.(

Supangco, ViceChancelloror Research and Extension o theUniversity o the Philippines Los Baños(UPLB), during the start o the 2day "Orientation Seminar/ Workshop onR and D Project Implementation andManagement" last March 7 and 8,2011 at the OVCRE Building."It is thereore important or youngpeople such as yourselves to know howresearch projects are implemented andmonitored. Tis will make it easieror you to conduct your respectiveprojects," he added.Te orientationworkshop, attendedby more than 30 young aculty andREPS rom the various units o theuniversity, was aimed at equippingparticipants with basic knowledge onthe various aspects o research projectimplementation. Te capacitybuildingprogram is conducted yearly by theOce o the ViceChancellor orResearch and Extension (OVCRE)or young and new researchers o theUniversity, most o whom are recipientso grants under the UPLB BasicResearch Program.Te orientationworkshop included sixmodules developed by the OVCRE'sProject Development, Monitoringand Evaluation Section with the helpo topic experts. Te lectures ocusedon research process ow, nancialmanagement, procurement guidelines,accounting procedures, intellectualproperty rights, writing publishablearticles, research ethics and tips in oraland visual presentation o researchoutputs.
