Procedural Text

IX SMP
-Definition-
Procedural text is used to tell someone how to do or
make something.
This type of text comes in many forms, such as
instruction, manuals, and recipes.
Parts of a procedural text:
1. Goal
2. List of Materials
3. List of Equipments
4. Steps
-Parts-

Goal or title • states the goal to be achieved.

List of Materials • lists the materials needed.

List of • lists the equipments needed.


Equipments
• describes steps in logical order to achieve the goal.
Steps • sometimes the steps include caution(s) or warning(s).
• there are also drawing to make the steps clear.
-Language Features-

When you read a procedural text carefully, you will


find a use of:

1. Command or imperative sentences


2. Action verbs
3. Precise vocabulary
4. Adverbials
-Language Features-

• an authoritative direction or instruction to do something


Command • e.g.: fill the glass almost full with tea

• verbs that specifically describe what the subject of the


Action verbs sentence is doing
• e.g.: make, mix, add

Precise • using accurate or delimited words for information


vocabulary • e.g.: specifies a precise amount (2 cups of orange juice)

• to express details of time, place, or manner


Adverbs • e.g.: mix them well (manner) in a large bowl (place) for one
minute (time)

Title / Goal :
How to Make No-Bake Blueberry Cheesecake Bars
Materials you’ll need:
16 crushed graham crackers
3 tablespoons melted butter
18 ounce packager cream cheese, at room temperature
1 cup ricotta cheese
2 tablespoons honey
1/4 to 1/2 cup blueberry jelly or jam
2 or 3 tablespoons lemon juice
Fresh blueberries

Optional:
1/2 cup sugar
Rind of a lemon, freshly grated
Whip Cream
Equipments you’ll need:

1. 8 or 9-inch square pan (glass is good)


2. Hand mixer or a whisk
3. Spatula or butter knife
4. Small pot
Steps
1. Combine crushed graham crackers and melted
butter. Press evenly into bottom of a square pan
to form a crust about 1/4 inch thick. Put in
refrigerator until ready to use.
2. Using a hand mixer or a whisk, combine cream
cheese, ricotta, honey, lemon rind, lemon juice
and sugar, and blend until smooth.

3. Spread cheese mixture carefully and evenly over
crust, using a spatula or butter knife to smooth
top.
4. Melt blueberry jam or jelly in small pot on top of
stove. Add fresh blueberries, stir to glaze.
5. Cover cream cheese mixture with fresh
blueberries and chill for at least an hour, or until
set. Garnish with optional whip cream.

6. Cut into squares or bars and serve .
