berhati-hati ketika mengambil giliran. Kesalahan paling asas seperti senarai di bawah dan
diharap tahun-tahun yang akan datang tidak akan berulang lagi:-
1. Striker tidak menutup sepenuhnya bulatan dasar (full moon).
2. Striker menutup sepenuhnya bulatan dasar tetapi terkena garisan 45 darjah.
3. Striker tidak menyentuh kedua-dua garisan dasar (base line).

Carrom is a table top board game played between two players or two teams consisting of two
players each. The objective of the player/team is to score points or win boards by pocketing all
the wooden discs belonging to them with the help of a striker. Carrom resembles billiards to a
significant extent, and hence, is also referred to as 'finger billiards', though rarely. The simple
rules of carrom board game, along with the fact that it doesn't require much investment as far
as infrastructure is concerned, makes it one of the most popular indoor game in many parts of
the world. Also read about some other top board games.

Carrom Equipments
In carrom, the equipment includes a square board of lacquered plywood, which measures 29
inches, with thick walls at the edge, and four pockets in the four corners. Other equipment in
carrom board game includes nineteen discs, - nine white, nine black and one red (the queen),
and a striker. The discs used in this game are also referred to as the carrom-men. The striker is
relatively larger and heavier, and is used to strike the discs in order to pocket them. Additional
carrom board game equipments include a stand which holds the carrom board and powder
which makes the surface of the board smooth.

How to Play Carrom Board Game?

Among the two sets of colored discs - white and black, each side is supposed to choose a
particular set. This is generally decided by 'calling the carrom-men' method, wherein the referee
hides a white and a black disc in either hands and the player is supposed to identify in which
hand the white disc is, or simply a coin toss. The person who wins the toss starts the game.

After choosing a particular set of colored discs, the players are supposed to pocket all the discs
of their set, as well as the queen, using the striker. The striker, as its name suggests, is used to
strike the discs, to propel them into the pockets at the four corners of the carrom board. The
striker can only be moved by flicking it with fingers. Every time the player pockets a disc from his
own set, he gets another chance, until he is not able to pocket any more discs. If he pockets a
disc belonging to the opponent, he automatically loses a chance, and the opponent takes over.

According to the standard carrom board game rules, constituted by International Carrom
Federation (ICF), the player has to pocket all his discs as well as the queen. On doing this, he
either wins the particular board or earns some points and marches towards victory. The queen,
though requires a 'cover', which means an additional disc belonging to his own set has to be
pocketed either simultaneously with the queen, or immediately after the queen. This invariably
means that the queen has to be pocketed before the last disc belonging to his own set. If, even
by mistake, the player pockets the last disc of his set before taking the queen, he forfeits the
board or the points.

Carrom Board Game: Rules and Regulations

All carrom-men should be arranged in such a manner that the queen is at the center, and the
white discs form a 'Y' in the arrangement. The person who wins the toss, and chooses the set of
white discs, plays first or 'breaks' to start the game. The player is supposed to strike from his side
of the board only, and crossing over to the other side calls for a foul. According to the correct
placement of the striker, it has to touch both the lines, and should either cover the end circle
completely or not touch it at all. In order to strike a disc forward, use of index finger, middle
finger or use of index and middle finger together (scissors shot) is allowed. On the other hand, to
strike a disc in the back pocket, only the use of thumb is allowed. The use of thumb, however, is
only allowed when back shots are permitted. Generally in carrom doubles, they are not
permitted. Read more on carrom rules and regulations.

Generally, a carrom board game may run up to 25 points or eight boards, whichever comes first.
In case of points, the queen has a value of three points, while the other discs have a value of one
point each. A player earns points on the basis of the number of opponents discs left behind.
Pocketing the queen earns the player 3 points, only if he wins that particular board, and until his
score reaches 22 points, after which the queen has no points for the particular player. If the
games reaches the eighth board, the player who has more points or more boards to his credit
wins the match.
There are quite simple rules in the carom game and knowing them would be very useful to get
started with the game.
1)    Two to four people can play carom at a time, if two of them are playing then they have to sit
opposite side of the board, while four can occupy all the four side of the board. Partner should
sit opposite to each other. As an exception even three can play against each other for points.

2)    Follow the rules for arranging the coins; arrange the carom men on the centre circle of the
carom board, with the red queen at centre. The white should be arranged in such a way as to
form "y" shape with two sides aiming directly towards corner pockets.

3)    Each player sits on his side and can strike from that side only.

4) When placing the striker on the board to strike, it should touch both the base line or on end
circle covering it completely, or not touching it at all. The striker should not touch the diagonal
arrow.

5)    Striking style depends on individual comfort, which ever grip is comfortable is fine as long as
you flick the striker and don’t push it. For forward shots, you can either use your index finger,
middle finger or scissors shot. Before shooting, touch the striker with your nail to be sure that
it’s on line. This will prevent you form hurting your finger and will improve your accuracy.

6)    For back shots you can use your thumb or scissors style.

7)    Except your hand, any other part of body should not cross the imaginary diagonal line. Also
make sure that only your wrist can touch the board.

8)    The red queen can be pocketed after sinking the first piece but before your last one. After
pocketing the queen, you must sink any of your carom men, covering it in the next shot, or else
queen will be returned back to the center point of the board.

9)    Once the queen is covered, who ever clears all their carom men first wins the game.

10) The winner of the board collect one point for each carom men left by the opponent at the
end and three points if the queen is covered by winner itself.

11) A game consists of 25 points or eight boards, whichever comer earlier.

12) Sinking the striker cost you one piece and one turn. If you sink any of the carom men in the
same shot then you shoot again.

13) If a piece jump out of board while shooting then the piece will be placed on the center spot.

14) If there is any overlapping of the piece then they are left as it is.

15) If you sink your opponent’s piece you lose the turn and if you sink their last piece you lose
the board and three points.

16) If the striker does not leave both lines, you get three tries to break before losing your turn.

These are some important rules and regulation to be followed while playing carom.
