VALUE STREAM MAPPING

Value stream mapping is a technique used to identify and strip wasteful steps out of a
company's flow of information and materials. The end goal of the technique is to make
the company "lean" meaning free of wasted effort.

Companies divide their process into discrete sections, allowing several teams of experts
to apply lean techniques simultaneously.Next, the difference must be established between
value and waste. In its broadest sense, value is adding to the product something which the
customer wants or needs. Waste, on the other hand, is any step that does not add value. A
Value Stream includes all elements (both value added and non-value added) that occur to
a given product from its inception through delivery to the customer.Even more important,
value stream mapping not only includes defining the current state, but also includes
defining the future state and the gaps between the two.

IMPLEMENTATION

 Identify the target product, product family, or service.

 Draw a current state value stream map, which shows the current steps, delays, and
information flows required to deliver the target product or service. This may be a
production flow (raw materials to consumer) or a design flow (concept to launch). There
are 'standard' symbols for representing supply chain entities.
 Assess the current state value stream map in terms of creating flow by eliminating
waste.
 Draw a future state value stream map.

 Work toward the future state condition

The main aim of the project is to assess the current state map and minimize the lead time
obtained. Then draw the future state map by including cell system to minimize the lead
time. Here we are limiting our implementation of the cell system to improvise the lead
time in four processes of making a blood bag as filling, cooling and sterlisation due to
various constraints in the industry.
