Problem of the Week 4/10/11 – 4/18/11

Run By Jack Hamilton

Issues with Algebra

(9+Z)(1+Z) = 6 + 7Z + Z2

You may be aware that there are only 5 problems left until the

Grand Finale. I am now aiming these problems to prepare you for

the final challenge. And without further ado, I present this week’s

challenge, which is so cool I wish I had invented it.

It is clear that the above equation does not work. Your simple

challenge is to alter it so that it does, WITHOUT writing anything

down.

Hint on back. If you solved this, write the answer or a diagram on the back in a box.

Austin Letsson was last week’s winner.

If I publish an impossible problem I swear I will stab myself in the heart with a rusty banana.
Issues with Algebra hint

On this one, you don’t really need to write anything down. Don’t

waste time doing it.

I’m gonna have to give Kjartan Poskitt credit for this one.
