“Scotland has a proud tradition of welcoming refugees. No one chooses to be a refugee and it is therefore important that accurate informationis put into the public consciousness. We know that refugees can and do make apositive contribution to Scottish society. Topromote understanding and empathy it is vital that we ensure that established communities areaware of the issues facing asylum seekers and refugees. We are fortunate that attitudes to asylum seekers and refugees as well as the media coverage of these issues in Scotland have been generally more positive than some other areas of the UK.However there is still work to be done in build-ing understanding between communities and this is an important and ongoing priority.Partnerships between organisations, across sectors, and with the media are important tosupport understanding in communities. TheAsylum Positive Images Project and Network have over the past number of years done this ina proactive and positive way as demonstrated by this piece of work.
