Who would want to use this list of 10,000 Lithuanian names?People searching for ancestors in Lithuania and those researching Lithuanian genealogy. Theinformation is also useful for those interested in Lithuanian history.3. Who is included in the list of 10,000 Lithuanian names? The individuals named are men who volunteered to be in the first Lithuanian army which wasformed in 1918 at the beginning of the first modern independent Lithuanian government.4. Why is this particular list important? If you find the name of a relative on this list, you should have enough information from thissingle source to begin a family history and genealogy search in Lithuania.Records of major family events (births, marriages, and deaths) are organized very differentlyin Lithuania than in most English-speaking countries. The Lithuanian Archives has hundredsof original ledgers that came from local parishes. There is no way to do a computerizedsearch. Searches are done by hand.To begin a search in the records of the Lithuanian Archives, one must have three critical facts:Who? What? and When? That is, one must have the Lithuanian name of the person to besearched; an important life event of that person (birth, marriage or death); and theapproximate date on which the event occurred. Once one record is found, that usually leadsto many others. All of the information needed to begin a genealogy search in Lithuania can be found in mostof the listings discussed here.

You can reach him by email at Vilius@LithuaniaVisits.com.  His website is http://lithuaniavisits.com/tours.php . We have found Vilius to be very knowledgeable, honest and dedicated to his work.
