A PLEASANT TRIP TO
YOGYAKARTA
Good morning to Ms. Ariani and all of my friends. Today, I’d like to
share my experiences on vacation to Yogya.

During the first semester holiday, I went to Yogyakarta with my

parents and my beloved cousin, Anjas. This trip was a gift from my
parents because I became the 1st champion in the whole seventh grade
from my school. We went to Yogyakarta on 27 th December 2009 by plane.
I enjoyed spending my time in Yogyakarta, because there are many
historical places.

Here is how I spent my time there. As soon as we arrived in Adi

Sucipto Airport (Yogyakarta’s airport) in the morning, my family and I
went to the hotel to have breakfast and rest. The hotel was comfortable,
nice, and clean. It was comfortable staying there. We rested for rest of the
day before we began our journey the next day.

The next day, after having breakfast, the travel agency already
waited for us. The travel agency took us to Borobudur Temple, the biggest
Buddhist temple in the whole world. Borobudur was included in the
“Seven Wonders of the World” and also “World Heritage”. That’s why
many tourists (both domestic and international) visited this beautiful and
historical temple. When I came there, the temple was extra crowded
because it was a holiday season. But, I still enjoyed being there, seeing
the beautiful scenes of this extraordinary temple. I was stunned by this
temple and there were a lot questions that popped to my mind. I
wondered, “How could all the people in the past, made these magnificent
temples? They didn’t have modern, electrical machines like us.. They
didn’t have cement to stick the bricks? How could they construct it? They
didn’t have steel like we do now..” I was really amazed by the power the
humans had in the past. After taking some pictures there, we went to our
next destination, Prambanan Temple.

Prambanan Temple, is a Hinduism Temple that worships God Siva.

The view was as beautiful as the view in Borobudur. Unfortunately, the
temples were still under construction, so we couldn’t go inside. We could
only see the temple from outside. Again, the same questions popped
through my mind. After taking some pictures with my family, we had
delicious lunch at a Traditional Restaurant near Prambanan. There, I ate
Jackfruit Rice or it is well-known as “gudeg”. Umm.. Yummy! After that, we
went back to the hotel.

The next day, we had breakfast in hotel. Then we went to Ketep

Pass. That is known as Merapi Mountain. Merapi Mountain was famous
because it erupted in the past two years. And the only active mountain in
Yogyakarta. The caretaker of Merapi Mountain, Mbah Marijan was very
famous too. We hiked through the mountain. There, we saw beautiful
panorama. It was very cold, because this area is still full of foliages. We
kept hiking through the mountain. Beyond the forest, we saw a beautiful
waterfall. In the forests there were many mischievous monkeys. I bought
some nuts, and I fed the monkeys.

Next, we went to Parangtritis Beach, a lovely beach that is believed

to be guarded by the “Southern Sea Queen”, Nyai Roro Kidul. We rode a
horsecart to explore the beach, because the beach is very wide. “Wow!”
that’s the first word that I could say to express my wonder after seeing
this beautiful panorama. After taking some pictures in the beach, we had
lunch. Then we went to the hotel.

The next day, we went to Taman Sari. Taman Sari is a garden made
by Sultan (king in Yogyakarta). It was very beautiful there, especially the
water palace. Water palace is a palace that is filled with water. After
taking some pictures there, we went to Sultan’s Palace, about 25 metres
from Taman Sari. There, I saw many Sultan’s weapons, treasures, etc.
After that, we had lunch, in a small shop nearby the palace. Then, we
went to the hotel to rest.

In the evening, we went to Maliboro Road, to buy some souvenirs

and gifts for my relatives and friends. The street was very crowded. It was
hard to walk. But, finally we finished our shopping. Then, we had dinner.
After that, we went to the hotel to rest and we were getting ready for the
next day, because we were going home, back to Bali.

The next day, we went back to Bali by plane. It was such an

unforgettable experience. Yogyakarta is a city that’s full of historical
places. I loved being there!
