Which Student Has The Greatest Lung Capacity? By: Joanne

Hypothesis: I think Unchan
will have the greatest lung
capacity, since he's the
strongest person throughout
all 7th grades. Furthermore,
he's a boy.
Procedure: In the beginning
of this project, I was going
to test 20 students for my
experiment. But, as time
goes on, I decided to test
only 15 students. 20 stu-
dents is a lot of work. I felt
exhausted. As I continuously
timed students, I realize that
the smaller they are the big-
ger capacity they have. That
fact just amazed me. How a
person like Cassie cans has
bigger lung capacity than
Unchan, which is half her
size? After testing everyone,
I wrote sown my data. As the
list grew longer, the due
time came closer. I finished
it right before the due date. I
was closed to getting a B.
Source of Error: For sources
of error, I tried to make sure
all the people I’m testing are
properly not breathing or
trying to cheat in other ways
like to breathe through their
mouth (people cheat a lot,
believe me I know plenty).
Secondly, I tested each per-
son with a stopwatch in-
stead of counting to make
sure that the time is correct.
Last but not least, I let some
people redo their breathing
because if that person is
laughing, it wouldn’t be fair
for them to have a minimum
amount.
Use of feedbacks: Minchin
(my partner) doesn't give
that much feedback so that
isn't helpful at all. In addi-
tion, she asked me what
does lung capacity have to
do with breathing and over-
all my project is good so I
don’t think the feedback is
helpful at all.
Sample Size and Variables:
At first, I decided to test 22
people in my class (sample
size) but as the experiment
goes on, decided to test
about 10-15 people because
20 people can be very tire-
some. Sometime, I have to
run everywhere to be able to
ask people. As for the vari-
able, I decided it would be
the seconds that a person is
breathing because it helps
me to identify if the lung
capacity of that person is
big or not.
Conclusion: My hypothesis
wasn't supported by the
data because I hypothesize
that Unchan will have the
greatest lung capacity, but I
was wrong. The prediction
was wrong. I was speech-
less. Minh2 is small and has
an amazing eagle eye. How-
ever, Minh2 has the greatest
lung capacity in our class.
Minh2 may look diminutive,
but very intellectual. Addi-
tionally, I think he has the
greatest lung capacity be-
cause he was a trumpet
player and he’s a strong
dude.
Follow up question:
Would it make a difference
if you make your friends try
who can run longest in same
fast?
Would the blowing up bal-
loon in one blow a fairer
experiment of lung capacity
than this one?
Does what type of hobbies
each person have affected
the lung capacity?

What type of drag will slow down an object
the most when it's falling? By: Chozen
Hypothesis: I think that
the helium balloon drag
system will slow down
the object the most.
Procedure: I’ll drop a
book that will be attached
to a drag system and see
which drag system slows
down the book the most. I
will attach one book with
a different drag system
every time I drop, which
is dropping from 5 me-
ters.
The feedback that I had
received from Chong at
Brent Subic did help me
on my experiment. Chong
said that I must use a light
object to attach to the
drag system so it will
flow down easier, and I
did. Instead of a Rubik
cube which is ponderous,
I used a flimsy book
which is best for the ex-

make this a fair experi-
ment by testing it in an
area that is not windy,
like the bridge that con-
nects the MS/HS and ES
building, because maybe
wind can affect the aver-
age time. Another way by
making this experiment
fair is I used high-quality
balloons which is the
same type and color, and
using the same type of gas
to pump in the balloon. I
also tested the average
time of the book by itself
with no drag system to
see the difference be-
tween the drag systems
and the book itself.
Sample Size and vari-
ables: I chose 3 types of
drag system as a sample
size because I thought
that using different types
of drag systems is fair for
the experiment. Besides, I
didn’t have time to do 5
drag systems, which I had
planned in the beginning,
so I tested 3 drag systems.
The variables that I chose
in this experiment are: 5
meter height, helium gas,
a book, and no-wind test-
ing area. I chose to drop
the drag systems with the
book at a height of 5 me-
ters because it’s not too
high or low, which is ac-
ceptable for the experi-
ment. I chose to pump

helium gas into the bal-
loon because most bal-
loons are pumped with
this gas. Like I mentioned
before, I chose a light ob-
ject, a diminutive book for
the experiment because
it’s light enough for the
drag system to slow it
down. Maybe wind can
affect the data, so I chose
a non-windy place.
Conclusion: My hypothe-
sis was not supported by
the data because the plas-
tic bag parachute has the
longest average time to
descend to the ground,
which means it has the
greatest drag. I thought
the helium balloon had
the best time, but it is the
worst average time. The
average time that it takes
for the book to touch the
ground using the plastic
bag parachute was 1.85
seconds.
Follow up questions:
1. If I had used propane or
hydrogen gas, will it help
the balloon parachute in-
crease the average time?
2. Could wind be a vari-
able that could change my
data?
3. Would the data change
if I test the drag systems
at a greater height?

Who spends the most Time on Homework per Week? By: Vincent
Hypothesis: I think Joanne
spends the most time on
homework, since every assign-
ments that she hands in are
all perfectly accomplished.
Procedure: Step 1: Design a
frightening question for how
long the students spent on
their homework for a week
from Monday- Sunday.
Step 2: Ask b block students
to answer the fearsome ques-
tion.
Step 3: Find out the statistic
of the data.
Step 4: Compare the amount
of time each student spent on
their homework.
