Affection for Politics.
Political parties and their campaigns are successful only if they have the support of many volunteers and workers. You can easily become a member of a party and get involved in supporting the candidate of your choice by devoting some of your free time to whatever campaign work is needed in your area. The party defines its organization and objectives and commitments, to come to political power and serve the nation.
The Party workers pledge to build a strong and prosperous nation with a progressive and strong party. I have seen innumerous workers working day and night for the party, without any personal benefits. At first I salute those workers.
You ask a worker, why he is working for the party, the answer is
‘Sheer love and affection towards party’. Good to listen, but what’s your experience today?
I will give my personal experience. This word ‘affection’ has a new meaning in politics. The term, which otherwise was used to express qualitative and subjective feelings of worker for the party, has turned hugely quantitative in nature.
To create wealth in any form and to get famous is the new ‘Mantra’ today in our political system. The most convenient way in which most, if not all party workers make a fortune and legitimized it.
Political workers or said volunteers, expect return favors in some form or the other, like some government projects or even bailing out themselves or someone known to them, from our legal system after some heinous crime! They even run their own judiciary. Best is a ticket to fight the next elections and become corporator, MLA or MP.
No wonder, some good or say successful workers have criminal records, and they get away from legal scrutiny. The bureaucracy, judiciary and media sit and watch it all as mute spectators.
Politics today is more like a business but without basic ethics and moralities in place. It is more like organized crime wherein political parties and their workers are mafias in themselves, who have completely robbed the Indian voters of everything, including their moral legitimacy.
In our country, the electoral process is under siege from mindless, anti-democratic politicians who have polluted the system. However, one cannot ignore the great political workers who have given their whole life to serve the nation via politics and even stayed bachelor. Atalji I salute you.
Will our system get such sincere and hard working citizens? Let’s pray for the best.
