World cup victory

A momentous occasion, with amazing team of talented men, holding the world cup. The feeling is overwhelming and very hard to express, in a blogs. This world cup tournament had 14 teams competing which lasted for six weeks.

Going back, India playing Australia; was like a Mini final and India playing Pakistan, was like a war, we were surrounded by extraordinary phrases like missiles, in the battlefield. Journalists, with their ability were filling the space, the spirit of the game was being ignored with all the crap and we were taking it. No doubt all this was disturbing, and not appreciating the World Cup cricket in the right way. Sure the patriotism comes in our cricket crazy country, and hence some feel the spirit of the game was lost. An ardent fan of cricket and a patriot I was saying India ‘should’ win the World Cup. But there were people saying India ‘will’ win the world cup. And the punters from the betting industry who were making a killing.

With this big question arises: Was the World Cup fixed, as is being made out to be by some.

For me at least, it is hard to believe with country like Australia prepared to loose. Those fixing the World Cup are they so courageous and flawless, that they believe they would fix the World Cup and no one would know. I don’t think so, as there was just one tie match, other teams seemed to have played with spirit.

With suspicion in their mind, some will always suspect everything under the sun. Not a fair viewpoint. It was essential for me to root for our national team, my loyalty to the nation, and I did it, as I feel so. I simply cheered for my team and its performance. Every die hard cricket fan in India was eagerly waiting for the World Cup trophy after Kapil’s Devils did it in 1983. I too, like millions of die hard cricket fans, wished our tri-color to flutter proudly at Wankhede Stadium and it did happen. Only sad part is that the master batsman, who inspires many a future stars, in the best form of his life, missed his 100th century and that too in the memorable match of his life.

By not keeping self ahead of the country, I let my emotions take a back seat when it comes to patriotism. I am happy that Dhoni’s boys have won the world cup to give a good farewell to master blaster Sachin.

With this spectacular victory, Let us enjoy it with pride and leave the rest to the officials to dig out. Jai Hind.
