THE 2010
ENGLISH WEEK

During the first week of June 2010, the English panel had planned and carried out the
English Week whic h listing down various exciting activities to trigger pupils’ interest in learning and practising
English. However, the time allocation had been shortened due to the other events and activities that were being
held in school within the same week, yet all activities planned were carried out succe sfully with great support
financially and mora lly from all teachers and pupils of SK Jerek, Gua Musang.

The invitations were made on Tuesday to activate teacher’s memory of the upcoming school activities. Then, on
2nd of June 2010, Wednesday, aligned with the English Day that is being held every week, the activities took off
as scheduled. Starting from 7.30 a.m., the event was initiated with ‘The Crossword Puzzle and Word Search
Competition’. The competition involved all pupils from Year 1 to Year 6. The ‘Crossword Puzzle” is meant for
Level 1 pupils while level 2 pupils did “Word Search” within 45 minutes. Later on, everyone dismissed into
classes because the following events were programmed to set off in the evening.

Later on, at 5.00 p.m. sharp, the remaining activities kicked off. Four teachers were assigned to be the
honoured judges to evaluate and allocate marks for the contestants of ‘The Storytelling and Action Songs’
competition. Over all, nine pupils took up the challenge to participate in the ‘Storytelling Competition’ while five
groups took part in the “Actions Song Competition”. The flow of the performances went smooth and by 6.00
p.m. all contestants had already performed their talents and efforts. In the end, the Senior Assistant teacher,
Encik Hanafi Ismail delivered his speech to congratulate all contestants for taking part and to thank all teachers
for being around to give supports and help. Then, all contestants and audience were served with some drinks
and kuih before the dismissal.

The anxious feeling and excitement continued to the following day, when the prize-giving ceremony was held.
The 3rd of June was picked since it was the last day before pupils were set off for their holiday. In addition, it
was thought as the best time to give credits to pupils who had practised very well and became very courageous
and confident to be on stage as well as in the writing competitions. The Headmaster of SK Jerek was delighted
to deliver the prizes to the winning hands. Then, all pupils dismissed into classes happily and encouraged
though some might not be the champion, yet everyone had their own piece and parcel to be brought home as
memory.

These were the activities planned and carried out through the English Week of SK Jerek 2010 in which the
English Panel received full supports from all parties especially teachers and pupils. It is highly hoped that these
kinds of activities could be further carried out and evolved into bigger events like inviting other schools to join
as well as sending pupils as contestants to seek for chances to develop their skills in communicating English
widely. A million of thanks from us, the English teachers, firstly to SK Jerek administration for providing
financial help and to everyone who dedicated their time, money and energy in giving supports towards the
educational benefits of SK Jerek’s pupils.
