Dear Salman.

The word "Al-Kitab" is used as "The writing". Qura'n tells us the clear attributes for "the written law"
that was given to Ibraheem {87:19), Aal e Ibraheem (suhuf,4:54), David (zabur, 4:163), Bani Israeel
(Tawrah, 3:93), Mosis (Suhuf 4:54) Jesus (injeel, 5:46} and Muhammad (Qur'an, 76:23).

Qur'an is not just the reading of the "Al-Kitab" but also the attribute of "the writing" that was given to
Muhammad pbuh and then was preserved. Abraham, Bani izrael, David, Mosis, Jesus all of them got
revelations the attributes of which is reffered to by Quran as Tawrah, Injeel, Zabur etc. The following
verse shows that the children of Israel has with them the book known as the Tawrah which Qur'an asked
them to bring if they are righteous:

Indeed, We sent down the Torah, in which was guidance and light. The prophets who submitted [to
Allah ] judged by it for the Jews, as did the rabbis and scholars by that with which they were entrusted of
the Scripture of Allah , and they were witnesses thereto. So do not fear the people but fear Me, and do
not exchange My verses for a small price. And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed - then
it is those who are the disbelievers

If there was Qur'an that was reveled to them then what it means when they are being asked to bring
Tawrah that was reveled to them?

Indeed, We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him.
And we revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, the Descendants, Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and
Solomon, and to David We gave the book [of Psalms]

Qur'an clearly indicates that "The writing" that was reveled to "the messenger Muhammad" and "the
writing" that was reveled to each of the previous messengers were different standalone entities having
the same fundamentals but revealed at different point in time to different nations in different
geographical and social contexts . "Kutibihi", therefore is not the writings within the same "Suhuf" but
"the writings" revealed before Qur'an to different prophets. Have a deeper look on the following verse
to understand this fact:

O you who have believed, believe in Allah and His Messenger and the Book that He sent down upon His
Messenger and the Scripture which He sent down before. And whoever disbelieves in Allah , His angels,
His books, His messengers, and the Last Day has certainly gone far astray

Had the book been one and only entity revealed again and again with exact identical wordings, the

Dear Salman, try to search and differentiate between the concept of ͞al-kitab͟ and ͞Ummul Kitab͟.
Most of the times the kitab is refered to in the Quran in the context of the ͞Ummul Kitab that is with
God.

You said: 'When it comes to messengers and prophets, the reference of the Book is always singular."

Quran never says we have reveled "kutub" to Moses. Similarly, when the reference of "Al-kitab" is made
for a singlular prophet, the reference has to come as "Al-kitab" and not "Kutub. See 2:53, 2:87, 3:3,

2:177 ex 2:213. 3:81, 3:84, 3:184, 4:54
