‘Those suffering from diabetes have
myriad problems to deal with on a
daily basis
Simple and accurate testing of their
glucose levels should not be one of
these problems.
Some diabetes sufferers have their
eyesight affected by diabetic
retinopathy. Their vision is poor and
itis difficult to see testing
equipment. These same people, and
others, have their nerves in their
extremities damaged by
neuropathies. This makes it dificult
to test for levels of glucose since it is
hard to orient your pricked finger to
the testing strip if you cannot feel
your fingers
Furthermore, a problem for nearly
anyone who tests their own glucose
with traditional pricking and test
strips is the false reading of the test
strip. This happens for a multitude of
reasons. Not quite enough blood on
the test strip, the test strip is not
lined up correctly, or too much
movement of the strip keeps a
glucose meter from reading correctly.
This is very difficult for users,
especially since the test strips are
now rendered useless. Complicating
matters, test strips are the most
expensive part of the testing, which
puts low-income users in a quandary
When it comes to what to spend their
money on, food or test strips.
This GLUCOSE GUIDE concept is an
accessory that looks to solve all of
these problems by easily guiding the
lancets and test strips to the same
exact spot consistently, reducing
errors and helping eliminate false
readings of the test strips.

sizes and orientationsThe Glucose Guide is an individual
piece of injection molded plastic that
slips over any finger. Living hinges
allow the piece to be folded over to
enclose the user's finger. Once
fastened with the folding lock,
adjustable for many finger sizes, all
the user needs to do is slip the lancet
device into the “lancet area” molded
to fit the lancet device. It fits one
easy way and has an angled sidewall
to steer the lancet to a hole designed
‘to accept the lancet and allow it to
puncture the skin and draw a blood
droplet. The size of the hale and the
proper amount of travel for the
lancet to penetrate are designed into
the Glucose Guide so all one needs
to do is slide the lancet in and press
down.
‘Once the blood droplet is drawn, the
testing strip attached to the glucose
meter is placed in the “test strip
area” sized specifically to fit the
strips in one orientation. The channel
guides the strip so that sample
collector aligns with the blood droplet
formed earlier. The user just needs to
rest the strip in the channel for the
few seconds the glucose meter
needs, and the test is complete with
no errors.
This method of testing is easy,
consistent, and makes handling
testing supplies more managable for
those with low-vision or diabetic
neuropathies.
This method may also be helpful for
elderly users or anyone who has ever
had to read an error message from
their glucose meter.
