Doyou~echangeasachallenge?Manypeopledon't.Tothemitisathreat.Itrepresentsuncertainty,insecurity,andtheyareunabletomakethementaladjustmenttothenewsituation.Theymeetchangewithrasentmentandresistitineverywaytheycan,fromlackofcooperationtorefusingtoacknowledgethatthesituationhasevenchanged.Perhapstheyforgetthatthe"oldways"forwhichtheyarefightingwereoncebrandnew--andprobablyasstronglyopposedbythetraditionalistsofthattime.Evenifwewould,wecouldnotstopchange.Therearetoomanyvariables,astoday'sheadlinesbearwitness.Achangeofgovernmentinacountryhalf-wayaroundtheworldcanchangethelifestyleofpeoplewhomightnotevenbeabletofindthatcountryonamap.Wecannotstopthiskindofchangebutwecanadapttoitbyacknowledgingitsrea~tyandgoing'ontolookfornewwaysofmeetingpuroldgoals.Othertimes,weourselvesinitiatechangeastheanswertoanidentifiedproblem.Whenaprogramnolongermeetstheneedsofourtime,changemaybenecessarytoinsureitssurvival.Sometimesthismaybeaperiodoftrialanderror,butoftenachangethatdoesnotworkoutmayleadtoonethatdoes.Thewrongisnotintryingandfailing--itisinfailingtotry.InJulyof1977,FloridaWingwasfacedwiththemajorproblemsofdecliningcadetandseniormembership,alackofseniorandcadetactivitiesonaWing-widebasis,afinancialpositionadequatetomaintainWingHeadquartersbutinsufficienttoprovideWingassistancetolocalunits,andatotallyinadequateseniortrainingprogram.InJulyof1979,FloridaWingwasNumberOneinthenation.Why?BecauseFloridaWinghad'peoplewhoweren'tafraidtogoaheadwithneededchanges,eveninthefaceofopposition,'andifnecessary,tomakechanges,inthe'changesifthatwaswhatwasneededtogetthejobdone.Hereareafewofthemanyprogramsinitiatedduringtheperiod1977-79WING-WIDEVISITATIONPROGRAM--ItgaveWingpersonnelafirst-handlookatlocaloperationsandproblems.PROJECTLAUNCH--Anintensive(andverysuccessful)recruitingcampaignthatwasadopted
by
