Technology STANDARD 3 - Application of Technology in Instruction: The competent

teacher will apply learning technologies that support instruction in his or her grade level

and subject areas. He or she must plan and deliver instructional units that integrate a

variety of software, applications, and learning tools. Lessons developed must reflect

effective grouping and assessment strategies for diverse populations.

1. Write a paragraph explaining your knowledge and understanding of the standard—put the

standard into your own words.

The standard is about getting teachers to think outside of the box when they are teaching.

Teaching today should include the technology that is overflowing our everyday life. Students

need more to keep them occupied these days and technology is the perfect answer to this.

Teachers should be prepared and studied on new technology and how they fit in with the

classroom. Most students today are used to computers and electronics so why not use something

they are familiar with to teach them with.

2. Explain how the artifact you chose demonstrates your understanding and application of the

standard.

In today’s society students need to be aware of technology and how to use it. Jobs and even

college today involving technology so much that as teachers it is our job to prepare them for this.

They need to be shown how to use them and what is out there to use. As well as the students

need a chance to explore with the technology themselves. It is vital for teachers and students to

both get the experience and knowledge with technology for the future but also for safety reasons

when it comes to teachers. Teachers need to know what harmful websites and what kind of

cyber things the students can get into while on a computer.

3. A If the artifact has been used in your practice, reflect on how your teaching will change in

the future to further meet the standard.

B. If the artifact has not been used in your practice, i.e., a class assignment, reflect upon how

your teaching will be impacted by the assignment.

I have had to use technology in my classes to present information or to teach from and it has

shaped what kind of teacher I will be. I will give students as much experience with technology

as I can while I am teaching. I believe it is an important skill for them to know their way around

a computer inside and out. I also believe my teaching would be much more effective if I used

technology to help get my point across. It is something simple and easy that will gain students

attention at the same time. They will be interested because a lot of programs and applications are

designed like television or video games. We worry about our students playing too many video

games and watching too much television but sometimes those can be a good thing, especially in

the classroom where it is structured.

4. Conclude with a paragraph discussing how you are more prepared to Teach and Learn in a

Diverse Society as a result of satisfactorily meeting the standard.

I am prepared for the fact that although I want to teach using technology and allow my students

to use technology in the classroom this may not come true. I could find myself in a school one

day where the funds do not allow for classroom computers or new equipment. In that case, I will

have to modify plans and find the best way to still teach to this standard. This can be achieved

by having computer lab time once a month, bringing in my personal laptop for teaching purposes

or find new interactive ways to teach my students. I really believe that skills on the computer or

with technology in general are vital for child development these days because our world is being

dominated with such items.
