PeriodLisa WeaverBiography of Dr. DreBorn Andre Romelle Young on February 18, 1965 in Compton California, later nick-named Dr.Dre, turned down the gangster life for the music industry, and quickly became one of the most powerfulAfrican Americans in the rapping industry. He had made a promise with his mother that if he were to goafter his dream of succeeding in the music industry, he would have to not partake in the gangster life.He started his career as a dj at his mothers parties, and quickly became a rap megastar when he joinedN.W.A., and is now a label owning, star discovering, triple platinum superstar. His mom was an influenceto him throughout his career.Dr. Dre began his career deejaying at his mothers parties, he received so much good feedbackfrom the party guests, that he began deejaying at a nightclub called Eve After Dark. This club took upso much of his time, that he dropped out of Centennial High School to continue pursuing his musicdreams. He soon began selling his own albums on the streets and in assorted music stored throughoutCalifornia, one of which sold 500,000 copies. These albums caught the attention of the label RuthlessRecords, co-founded by Easy-E and Jerry Heller. They brought several rappers together to form thegroup N.W.A.
