Global Connections23 April 2011Kenya Partners MicrothemeI really enjoyed being able to see the similarities and differences between thework of Kenya Partners and the needs that our previous guest, David Johnson, hadmentioned and discussed. One of the main points that Johnson had stressed what that what the people of Africa needed more than buildings and money wasempowerment and hope. It seems that Kenya Partners is helping to give the Africanpeople those very things and then some.Instead of going in with a team of workers and putting up new schools andhospitals and staffing them with volunteers, Kenya partners helps the Africaneconomy as well as its people by hiring locals to build and work the new facilities. What I love most about this is that by involving the locals, they are given ownershipand pride. They helped make these developments possible so they have moreemotions invested in them. These new buildings are their buildings, their schools, and their hospitals. One aspect that Kenya Partners is involved in that Johnson did not mention isthe sponsoring the education of the African children in Kenya. Through KenyaPartners you can sponsor a child through school and college paying for theiruniforms and tuition. This simple gesture, as the Kenya Partners representativeexplained, gives hope and an opportunity for a whole new life to these children.
