Mr Ricuarp M Sropparn—
Sir I wish you to proceede up the River to our
Head Quarters which I am ata loss at present where
it will be fixed— bot you may find it by taking the line
between the 10th & 11th Ranges as we intend to give
notice at the nearest Corners of the Townships on that
Line— we shall go as far up the River as possible with
our boat & most probable fix our stand on the bank of
the River — Your Compass & Chain are gone forward
You will be there informed where your business will
be — I shall send a line to this place if I have an oppor-
tunity after we have fixed our HeadQuarters [f you
should not arrive at this place soas to get there in about
thirty days after this date T think it will not be best for
you to.go up the River unless you receive another Line
from your very humble Servant

rens Line Camped on the west shore high banks— left

Sir I wish you to return and bring on another boat
Load of stores as soon as possible to this place you will
take 4 hands with you I wish to have such men return
as are best pleased with the business of boating — I

Sir the surveyors have this day taken the bush we
intend—build a Storehouse up the River—I wish you
together with those men that came with the boats and
are not to return with Mr Tinker to repair to our head-
Quarters & take the charge of the stores— on our return
from the Pensylvania Line— One or two of the Sur-
yeyors will go exploring then if you chose you can
accompany one of them You will take a boat up the
river with 8 barrels of flour & 2 of Pork—some Chests
&e which Mr Hart will shew you

Sunday Lith June 1797— We run a little beyond
Peases or my line & encamped for the night on the east.
shore— left a line at Tinkers Creek for the horse paxty
we had some logs to cut off in order to pass for the horse
party
Monday 12th June — after we had passed an Is-
Jand the water is shoal— he Atwater came up with the
horses— he just before had killed 8 Rattle Snakes—6
of which he brought with him to cook —
